The Center for Women and Families - Lead Emergency Shelter Resident Advocate

The Center for Women and Families provides free services to people of all identities who have experienced intimate partner violence and sexual assault. We help our clients and their dependent children become survivors through trauma-informed advocacy. Our goal is to mitigate the impact of their trauma by reducing their risk factors and building their resiliency. We serve anyone in Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Oldham, Henry, and Trimble counties in Kentucky and Floyd and Clark counties in Indiana.

The Lead Emergency Shelter Resident Advocate (ESRA) is responsible for training and mentoring new staff. They model exemplary performance to all staff and volunteers. The Lead ESRA provides shift oversight to Emergency Shelter operations. They engage in Emergency Shelter program initiatives. The Lead ESRA is responsible for actively assessing the needs of the shelter community and supporting staff, while managing a caseload of clients with minimal direct supervision.

This position is scheduled Sunday - Thursday, 3pm - 11:30pm

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct Client Services: Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, case management, counseling, de-escalation, transportation, advocacy, information, referrals, and supportive services

  • Guide weekly client-centered sessions and aid clients in identifying immediate needs and viable goals.

  • Complete weekly case plans, bi-weekly assessments, and transition plans.

  • Conduct intakes, exits, agreements, and conflict resolution.

  • Support shift lead, groups, walk-in clients, child enrichment, pet needs, and shelter space readiness.

  • Assists with client desk, call center and hospital advocacy coverage as needed.

  • Engage volunteers and community partners.

  • Provide verbal and written feedback to teammates on their work at the agency

  • Document prompt and timely interactions with clients and other relevant activities to examine program goals and outcomes and support continuous improvement

  • Engage as an active contributor to Emergency Shelter and Centerwide initiatives

  • Coordinate and monitor peer to peer shadowing with co-workers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field may be substituted for a degree.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that meets CWF automobile insurance requirements.

  • Fluency in languages other than English are a plus.

  • Understanding of the impacts of trauma

The Center requires the basic round of COVID vaccinations and highly recommends boosters. The Center also requires all employees to wear a mask and maintain a distance of 6 feet while working.
