Executive Director, Tech Ops IT
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as the Executive Director, Tech Ops IT for the Kite Information Technology group.
The Executive Director, Tech Ops IT will be accountable for liaising with Kite Technical Operations Leadership Team and key stakeholders to solve organizational information technology problems by helping develop business-enabling technology solutions that support Kite’s Tech Ops organization’s business capabilities and needs. This will be a critical role reporting to the Kite CIO and will be part of the Kite IT leadership team. This role will lead a global team to support all commercial and clinical sites as well as Tech Ops functions. This role provides business process development, solution development and project oversight and accountability. It is a highly cross functional role working closely with the senior leadership team from various business groups.
This opportunity is based at Kite’s HQ in Santa Monica, CA but a remote arrangement may be considered.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
- Oversee the long-term planning and implementation of key technology solutions to support Tech Ops business capabilities. Tech Ops include Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Process Development, Quality and Facilities.
- Work closely with Tech Ops business leadership team, sponsors, and other key stakeholders to understand their technology requirements and identify/implement “best fit” technology solutions to meet their needs.
- Facilitate the digital transformation strategy and systems roadmap for Tech Ops.
- Sponsor critical program implementation including resolving escalations on scope, budget, and timeline.
- Sponsor data governance council to strengthen guidance and key decisions for enterprise data platform and reporting.
- Accountable for Tech Ops systems in an FDA regulated biotech or pharmaceutical environment.
- Bring best practices to deliver solutions for the business problems through experience driven vision, planning and hands on experience with in a regulated GxP environment.
- Collaborate closely with other IT groups (infrastructure, service desk, IT security, and portfolio management) on the overall IT solutions delivery process, infrastructure, and database requirements.
- Provide stewardship and effective direction of IT resources and investments, including oversight of resource requirements, Tech Ops project portfolio, departmental budgets and staffing plans, and management of IT vendors and service providers.
- Guide IT continuity and connectivity, overseeing maintenance, compliance and security of existing systems and development of new systems.
- Improve and maintain an organization of talent – in a matrix operating model - that meet the needs of the business. Develop, motivate, lead and manage this team, including identifying leaders and developing managers.
- Guide organizational change to continuously re-tool the skills within the organization to meet technology and business environment changes.
- Develop relationships with senior business leaders to clearly define program requirements and outcomes, understand project budgets and investment prioritization.
Basic Qualifications:
- Advanced scientific degree (i.e. MD, PharmD, PhD) and 12+ years of experience in a GxP regulated setting (Laboratory, Quality, Manufacturing, IT) experience OR
- Master’s Degree and 14+ years of experience in a GxP regulated setting (Laboratory, Quality, Manufacturing, IT) experience OR
- Bachelor’s Degree and 16+ years of experience in a GxP regulated setting (Laboratory, Quality, Manufacturing, IT) experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of CGMP/ICH/FDA regulations with 21 CFR Part11. GAMP knowledge
- Experience in handling infrastructure and instruments qualifications and validations for regulatory requirements.
- Experience managing an infrastructure supporting manufacturing, supply chain and quality.
- Experience with lab instruments used with product development and manufacturing and integrating them with other systems.
- Experience in implementing and supporting systems like MES EBR, SAP ERP, LIMS, and SalesForce.
- Experience in data governance structure, data warehouse, emerging cloud, SaaS and web technologies.
- 10+ years of experience in a role presenting verbal and written communications to all levels of the organization.
- Ability to handle conflicting priorities from various business groups and prioritize them based on the business requirements and resource availability.
- Experience in implementing and leading change management and governance process, owning deviations and change control in a regulated environment.
- Effective organization and time management skills, with ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines in a exciting environment.
- Meaningful written and verbal communication and presentation skills with good executive presence to interact with senior leadership team from various business groups. Proficient in resources like PowerPoint, Visio, and other resources to develop process flows and presentations.
- Experience in leading, managing and mentoring a team of technology professionals.

The salary range for this position is: $266,815.00 - $345,290.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
