IRC BACKGROUND:

Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. One aspect of the IRC is to assist refugees with resettlement and integration in the United States. The IRC opened a Denver office in 2016 to provide reception and placement services to newly arrived refugees. The office is slated to resettle approximately 250 refugees per year and provide program services that assist refugees for up to five years following their arrival in the U.S. IRC in Denver’s service approach is client-centered, empowerment-focused, trauma-informed and multigenerational.

JOB OVERVIEW:

As an integral part of the IRC in Denver’s Health and Wellness department, the Family Stabilization Program aims to ensure that higher-risk clients receive additional support to set and move toward goals so they stabilize and are better positioned to realize self-reliance and longer-term integration. The Family Stabilization Program addresses needs among specific categories of clients as defined under the REACH Program by the Colorado Refugee Services Program (CRSP). The FSP provides intensive services that address threats to safety and daily functioning for these clients, including those who are survivors of domestic violence, live with severe and persistent mental illness, present with child welfare or elder abuse concerns, deal with substance abuse, experience suicide ideation, and/or identify to a group facing discrimination. The FSP team works in close coordination with one another and with multidisciplinary teams within the IRC, colleague resettlement agencies, external providers, and CRSP to promote stabilization of clients enrolled in the FSP.

Within the Family Stabilization Program, the Case Aide supports Family Stabilization Specialists to deliver services that promote such stabilization. Such support may include helping clients to navigate the health care system, non-immigration legal services, and extended housing support. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with limited practice to gain experience and learn from a skilled team.

This position is funded for 8 months with the intention to extend dependent on funding.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Following up on identified FSP client issues until fully resolved, and coordinating with resettlement staff to address issues that are outside the scope of the FSS role.
  • Working collaboratively with resettlement agency staff to promote FSP client success and wellbeing, including engaging in consistent communication, building effective referral processes, establishing shared expectations around FSP services.
  • Seeking out partnerships that increase FSP clients’ access to mainstream community services, and acting as a liaison to build and sustain relationships with providers and resources.
  • Supporting health activities, such as teaching clients how to navigate the U.S. healthcare system, attend appointments with client to advocate for appropriate language services and proper healthcare follow up, and teaching clients their rights regarding the healthcare system.
  • Supporting non-immigration legal activities, such as engaging with clients who are in FSP for domestic violence and clients who have received misdemeanors/felonies, helping the client to navigate legal services, and advocating for proper language services within the court system.
  • Supporting housing activities, such as learning landlord/tenant law to best support clients, helping to deescalate family and neighbor disputes, and empowering clients to understand housing searches and selection.
  • Maintaining accurate client case notes and documenting all client services in a timely manner.
  • Assessing, evaluating, and reporting program performance and escalating issues as needed.
  • Performing administrative tasks such as completing required documentation, reports, casefile quality assurance reviews, and similar items.
  • Identifying needs for additional training or process improvement and contributing to solutions.
  • Assuring compliance with the REACH Program guidelines and all other federal and state guidelines, program requirements and IRC contractual obligations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Position Reports to: Clinical Supervisor

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree or experience in social work, counseling, or psychology fields.
  • Experience in refugee resettlement and/or working directly with refugees is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret IRC, state, and federal guidelines and instructions.
  • Adept in leveraging resources and forging partnerships to better support clients; familiarity with local service provider landscape and resettlement context a plus.
  • Strategic and creative thinker and problem solver.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working cross-culturally and with individuals with limited English proficiency.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual in one or more client languages an asset.
  • Superb organizational, planning, time and task management and logistical skills.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities, with solid judgement and ethics consistent with the IRC Way.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), internet applications and relational databases.
  • Use of a reliable personal vehicle required, with valid driver’s license and current insurance.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Standard office work environment combined with considerable time in the field and in neighborhoods where refugees live.
  • Travel in and around the Denver metro area to facilitate service delivery, build community relationships and represent the IRC with community partners.
  • Hours outside of typical office hours may be required regularly.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

Compensation and Benefits: This is a full-time, limited term position classified as non- exempt and eligible for overtime under state and federal law. Compensation range is $21.00-$25.00/ hour depending on experience and qualifications. We offer a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits.
