Terracon is seeking a Field Scientist to join our Winter Park, Florida office! The candidate would work with a team of highly skilled scientists to conduct tree inventories, conduct tree health assessments, prepare tree mitigation plans, and other arboricultural tasks as assigned. The candidate would also be responsible for assisting with wetland delineations, wetland mitigation, and wetland permitting projects; listed threatened and endangered species assessments/surveys; regulatory agency coordination, and other natural resources assessments, surveys, and permitting. This position will require that the candidate assume project manager duties for all assigned projects (budget, schedule, etc.), will participate in client development activities, and will help with growing the Environmental Planning service line within the division.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
- May assist more senior scientists/engineers on large, more complex projects.
- Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
- Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
- Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for approval by senior level professionals.
- Evaluates moderately complex laboratory and field data and assembles in written reports.
- May serve as team member and participate in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
- May oversee work performed by lower-level scientists/engineers and Technicians.
- Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company.
- Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
- Participate in the development of marketing strategies and presentations of qualifications to clients on projects.
- Proficiency with equipment necessary to complete the tasks associated with this position.
- Experience utilizing GPS units and other related technologies to collect and interpret field data.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related science field and a minimum of 1 year related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years' related experience. Candidates with less than 1 years of experience will also be considered provided their academic efforts have demonstrated proficiency with natural resources assessment and interpretation.
- Valid Certification as an arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA)
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- Certification in field of expertise.
