Job description
Qualified candidate will assist the Plant Health Department Head in monitoring and managing pests, diseases, weeds, plant nutrition and irrigation to maintain healthy, ready to sell ornamental plants. Will regularly scout crops for any pest, disease, weed, nutrition, and moisture problems. Recommend and take corrective action on problems that arise. Apply pesticides, herbicides and fertilizer using cutting edge equipment. Maintain and update the irrigation schedule using wireless technology. Keep informed on the latest technologies in pest/disease/weed/nutrition/water management. Keep pesticide/fertilizer storage, mixing and loading areas clean and safe for all workers. Maintain the equipment clean and in working order. Assist in the repair and maintenance of the irrigation system. Manage the fertilizing and weeding crew. Keep detailed records of pests and diseases management, irrigation, and nutrition. Train and develop new employees.
- Degree in horticulture or related field; or 2 years related experience.
- Able to obtain an IL commercial not for hire pesticide applicator license.
- Able to operate small and large tractors and sprayers.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Able to work with diverse group of people.
- Computer skills strongly needed.
- Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekend and holiday if needed.
- Valid driver's license.
