We have two Natural Resource Technician (NRT2) positions available at the Northeast Region office in Colville that could be filled with someone like you.

These full-time permanent positions support DNR’s Forest Practices Program and are the point-of-contact for the public regarding Forest Practices Applications/Notifications (FPA/N) and associated documents. These positions assist the public by answering questions and providing assistance to landowners completing Forest Practices Applications and how RCWs and /or WACs and other guidance that applies to their proposal.

Duties

Responsibilities:
People skills and a good customer service attitude are invaluable in these two positions. These positions are the first points of contact in the Forest Practices office for the public either at our Forest Practices walk-up window, or through email inquiries or inquiries by telephone. These positions also provide Forest Practices information, guidance, and assistance to FPA/N applicants and how the rules apply to a landowner’s project. These positions also act as the initial contact either to resolve applicant disagreements/concerns, or to forward concerns to the appropriate DNR Staff.

Basic office and organization skills and a detail oriented nature are just as important as the people skills. Each NRT2 position is responsible for:


  • Reviewing submitted FPA/Ns and other associated documents for accuracy, and to work with the applicant to ensure the FPA/N and other documents are complete
  • Completing risk assessment for each FPA/N, processing FPA/Ns within rule mandated timelines,
  • Keeping track of where multiple FPA/Ns are in the application process.
  • Communicating concerns to fellow FP staff members and others as appropriate.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED and 4 years’ experience in a business environment with heavy customer interface.
  • Demonstrated experience using computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel and Abode Acrobat.
  • Ability to function as a member of a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to learn Forest Practices RCWs and WACs, DNR policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to respond to difficult, stressful or sensitive interpersonal situations in a way that reduces or minimizes potential conflict and maintains good working relationships among internal staff and external applicants and other stakeholders.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Position requires occasional travel to meetings. Some overnight stays may be required. The employee is eligible for per diem and lodging costs when in travel status, except when provided by the agency.
  • Employees of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. This position is based in an office/fieldwork and requires in-person attendance/interactions with no option for full-time telework. Desired Qualifications:
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural science, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years’ experience working in a natural resource- related field.
  • Experience reading and understanding maps.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment such as scanners, printers, and integrated phone systems.
