Rusk County is accepting applications for the Forestry Administrator position. This position is responsible for the management, planning, and administration of the Forestry Department as directed by the Forest Committee through sound forestry practices as well as providing leadership to sustain the health, diversity, productivity, and recreational value of the County Forest for present and future generations.

Duties include

· Responsible for managing resources and maximizing revenue on 89,000 acres of County forest land, including timber sales, parks, and recreational facilities.

· Develops policy, practices, methods, and procedures for Forestry Department.

· Responds to environmental conditions requiring immediate action and develops future policy based on changing conditions.

· Manages budgets for all programs within the department, including revenue stream for County.

· Responsible for creating state-required Comprehensive Forest 15-Year Plan.

· Interprets/analyzes State rules and regulations regarding forestry issues, including DNR audits. Collaborates with DNR forest program managers to ensure compliance with state requirements and methodology.

· Works with Wis. County Forest Association on statewide forestry policy development.

· Testifies at State level as called upon for new legislative bills impacting County Forests.

· Provides leadership on proposed state forestry legislation and other legislative matters affecting forestry and forest land use in Wisconsin.

· Obtains appropriate permits for projects.

· Responsible for providing public safety on all properties managed by Forestry Department.

· Responsible for maintenance, operation, and safety of all county-owned dams.

· Responsible for the safe working environment for Forestry Department staff. Must have Bachelor's degree in forestry from an accredited university and four to five years of experience in a field related to forestry and timber management. Starting wage range is $29.78 - $36.40/hr DOQ plus full benefit package. Deadline to apply is 11:59 pm on Sunday, October 16, 2022.
