Midwestern Career College has an immediate opening for a Full-Time ESL Instructor.

A little about the MCC ESL Program: The mission of the ESL Program is to provide non-native speakers of English with the English language, academic, and cultural skills that will enable them to further their education in U.S. colleges or universities and/or gain employment in their native countries or the US.

The Schedule: CEA-accredited adult IEP:

• 40 hrs/wk, Monday through Friday
• Possibility of evening / weekend classes

About the job: The Full-Time ESL Instructor will teach English as a Second Language classes and assist with program administration. The instructor has the desire to work in a positive manner with students, bringing energy and fresh ideas into the classroom. The instructor is comfortable teaching Beginner to Advanced levels of English. The instructor will assess the students throughout the program.

Duties:

• Teach a minimum of 30 scheduled hours a week per term in accordance with course goals, objectives, and student learning outcomes.
• Be qualified and willing to teach all levels and subject areas within the ESL Program.
• Substitute teach in emergencies (unscheduled instructor absences).
• Create an engaging classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest level of students.
• Conduct continuous evaluation of curriculum, instructional materials, and classroom activities.
• Evaluate student progress through required number of assignments, quizzes, and course exams, and record all grades by deadlines.
• Prepare for assigned classes and post session agenda (lesson plans) on course D2L/Brightspace pages.
• Maintain accurate student records, including grades and attendance.
• Show proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 365, One Drive, GradPro, Brightspace/D2L, and other platforms and software used by the department as well as classroom technology such as projectors.
• Provide and assist in the collection of feedback on course curriculum, methods, and materials.
• Participate in all department in-service meetings and workshops.
• Complete a minimum of 10 hours of professional development per year and provide documentation to MCC Administration.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 4 years experiencing teaching international college students / ESL adults and knowledge of US higher education and business workplaces.
• M.A. TESOL or linguistics OR related field w / TESL / TEFL / CELTA certificate. LOCAL APPLICANTS ONLY.
