Primary Function: The primary function of this position is to develop and maintain GIS spatial data and database systems in order to support various projects and studies utilized by Facilities Management. The same data and systems may be shared by other University departments such as Police, Fire, Telecommunications, Information and Technology, Risk Management, Residential Life, Domain Management, and the Dean’s Office. In further support of FM, this position will maintain and/or update necessary elements of FM databases that have data correlation. This position is critical as the University addresses the continual need for electronic data and integrated systems which rely on consistent, concise, and clear data. This position works with considerable independence and self-direction. Only general direction and scope of the work to be accomplished are discussed with the supervisor.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities: This position needs to utilize specialized skills and knowledge to:
- Collect, manage, analyze, and interpret geospatially and remotely sensed data.
- Locate and provide data for the use of various projects such as capital, construction, renovation, and evaluation, as well as perform analysis or refine data.
- Enter data into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases using techniques such as coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, scanning or automatic conversion to vectors, or conversion of other sources of digital data.
- Produce materials and visuals as well as manage online resources such as maps created with ArcGIS Online.
- Verify data or rectify GIS data.
- Analyze Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data to identify spatial relationships or display results of analyses, using maps, graphs, or tabular data.
- Maintain or modify existing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases.
- Review existing or incoming data for accuracy, usefulness, quality, or completeness of documentation.
- Input relevant data into other database systems.
- Perform integration or updates for data systems utilizing data collected.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Judgment Required: Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.
Machines & Equipment Used: Computer, GPS, Total Station, and other standard office equipment.
Personal Interaction/Communication:
- Student Contact: Work with or supervise work-study students who work at Facilities Management.
- Internal: GIS Lab Manager and Domain Manager for data and resource sharing, other departments as needed.
- External: May have contact with outside vendors for sharing of GIS resources.
Education: College degree or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- 3+ years of related experience with GIS needed; 5+ years preferred
- Extensive skill with ArcGIS and other similar data collection software.
- High-level critical thinking is needed.
- Must be able to work on various complex tasks which require problem-solving abilities.
Job-Related Skills:
- Job-related software systems.
- Customer service etiquette.
- Ability to communicate with customers and constituents.
Working Environment: Work is primarily in an office environment. Some work may occur in various campus buildings to verify layouts. Additional time may be outside in the field environment on the Domain to verify landscape features.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to climb (many stairs, and ladders).
- Must be able to crawl and or kneel.
- Must be able to push and/or pull objects.
- Must be able to navigate steep and rough terrain.
- Must be able to use feet for repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to use hands for repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds (Sedentary work).
- Must be able to carry up to 10 pounds (Sedentary work)
