Job description
You became a GIS Specialist because you enjoy creatively visualizing data, have an interest in solving challenges, and have an eye for aesthetics.
You’re looking for a firm with a purpose that engages you, and a culture that energizes you.
We’re Floyd|Snider and we’ve been looking for you.
We’re an employee-owned environmental consulting firm offering strategy, science, and engineering solutions in the private and public sectors. Founded in 1996, Floyd|Snider has consistently been recognized as one of the premier firms in the Northwest and a top place to work. Our people love it here because we don’t do cookie-cutter work; we work collaboratively on complex, fascinating projects.
Now we’re looking to add a GIS Specialist to our team to assist with GIS data management and map making in support of a wide variety of environmental projects. We’re looking for someone who exemplifies our commitment to technical excellence, environmental responsibility, and customer service.
That’s where you come in.
As our new GIS Specialist, your priority will be to support project teams by crafting high-quality maps and graphics that illustrate project concepts, challenges, and solutions for clients and regulators. You’ll ensure a high degree of accuracy through basic tasks while also maintaining a passion for creativity and innovation.
This role involves a great deal of collaboration. You’ll work with our GIS Analyst to complete tasks, prioritize work, and act as the GIS lead on small-scale projects. You’ll also work with technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of our organization.
Driven by the needs for each project, you’ll leverage your eye for aesthetics to develop maps and other data visualizations that support key project messages. You’ll also use your communication skills to balance multiple projects, share priorities, and establish clear deadlines.
You can count on growing here, as you work regularly with a diverse range of sites and clients. We’ll be relying on you to gain competency in Esri ArcGIS and learn additional programming and communication skills over time to develop new approaches to your work. You’ll become adept at finding your place on different interdisciplinary teams, speaking up with your ideas and discovering how you can add your unique contribution to each project you touch.
Beyond your relevant knowledge and expertise, we’re looking for someone with the following qualities:
Detail-oriented – you understand the data-driven nature of environmental decision-making and are dedicated to maintaining high-quality standards.
Organized – you're able to juggle competing priorities by identifying a critical path forward.
An excellent communicator – you’re a master at translating the complicated insights in your head into visuals your audience will understand. You’re comfortable speaking in groups, and you enjoy sharing your thoughts and brainstorming with a team.
The Details
This is a full-time, permanent position with an annual salary of between $67.5K - $72.5K. We will consider candidates with more than 1 – 3 years of applicable experience and adjust the salary accordingly.
Floyd|Snider provides employees with a flexible work schedule that includes core hours from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday.
We offer an excellent compensation package, which includes a competitive salary, commensurate with experience. We offer a bonus structure, equity and ownership options, 401K, a full benefits package, and life insurance.
Your professional growth is a priority to us. You’ll have our support to further your career development and participate in conferences.
Working with Us
We’re a socially responsible business that considers all our stakeholders – environment, planet, community, and supply chain. We’re serious about doing business better. These values led us to become a B Corporation. That’s why we are always finding ways to give back: and so will you, with one week of paid volunteer time each year.
We’ve got a spectacular group. If you enjoy teaming up with some very smart people in a variety of fields solving real, complex, and important problems, then this is the place for you.
Qualifications
Here’s our list of must-haves:
1 – 3 years’ professional or educational experience with Esri’s ArcGIS products, including Desktop and ArcPro, as well as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
Proven cartographic or graphic design skills including the creative and effective use of color, symbology, and annotation
Working knowledge of geodatabases, georeferencing, and spatial and attribute data entry and editing
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Ability to problem-solve and familiarity with user forums of the GIS community
Desire to learn new tools and develop new skills over time
The right candidate will have a mix of the following skills or experience:
Work experience or education in environmental sciences
Desire to work specifically in an environmentally focused practice, with an understanding or interest in learning about environmental sampling, environmental remediation, and engineering practices
Detail orientated problem solver who is knowledgeable in GIS techniques and cartographic design
Familiarity with programming using R or Python, or a strong desire to learn
Experience editing and/or developing graphics in Adobe Illustrator
Experience organizing and querying environmental data
Familiarity with relational databased design and systems, such as MS-Access and SQL Server
How to Apply
Our online application will give you the option to apply to this role as a complete person – not just a resume. The application will assess your qualifications, personality traits and workplace preferences, and should take 10 to 15 minutes to complete. After submitting, you'll receive an email inviting you to log in and view your assessment results.
We strive to build a team that reflects the diversity of the community we work in and encourage applications from traditionally underrepresented groups such as women, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, people identifying as LGBTQ2SI, veterans, and people with disabilities.
