Position Summary:
This position is accountable for supporting and executing communications strategy for Global Partnerships (Marketing Partnerships, and Media & Business Development) for the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League and NBA 2K League and for Marketing, including brand campaigns, league activations, and promotions for the NBA, WNBA, NBA 2K League, and NBA G League. This includes storyline development, pitching and securing media coverage promoting related programming, events, initiatives and athletes from all four leagues in regional and national lifestyle, sports, news, business, technology and entertainment outlets.
Major Responsibilities:
Accountable for Communications strategy for NBA Global Partnerships (Marketing Partnerships, Media & Business Development).
Develops press strategy and secures media stories promoting NBA Marketing and Promotional partnerships across the NBA and USA Basketball across categories including food & beverage, technology, financial services, automotive, apparel and accessories.
Supports the communications strategy and execution for the Marketing department, including NBA, WNBA, NBA 2K League, and NBA G League campaigns promoting Start of Season, Christmas Day, MLK, NBA All-Star, Black History Month, Playoffs, Finals, and Draft.
Secures press coverage on league marketing initiatives, helping drive tune-in and highlighting the league's innovation and fan engagement initiatives. Identifies, vets, and manages interview and speaking engagement opportunities
Crafts strategic communications plans, and crafts media materials including press releases, messaging, advisories, fact sheets and executive backups.
Tracks and develops award submissions for Marketing initiatives and individual executive honors.
Builds and maintains relationships with relevant national and regional reporters across sports, business, technology and lifestyle media.
Provide support for finance department initiatives including speaking engagements, messaging, fact sheets and executive backups.
Can successfully and consistently innovate around how to proactively promote the league, its key tentpoles and initiatives year-round, with a focus on marketing and global partners by developing unique storylines and pitches for targeted media outreach
Assists with issue identification and response management related to Global Partnerships and Marketing.
Compiles media recaps, updates media lists, monitors industry trends and current events and tracks and shares all relevant stories.
Leads corporate communications strategy for Marketing and Global partnerships, including speaking engagements, award submissions and conferences.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
Minimum 5 years of experience in communications
Strong writing and editing skills, and ability to communicate efficiently and clearly when speaking and writing
Track record of landing feature stories and news items across television, print and online media
Established contacts within lifestyle, entertainment, health and wellness, digital, tech, business, gaming and sports media
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines while working with speed and accuracy
Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations with poise, professionalism and confidence
Ability to remain detail-oriented, organized and flexible, and work both independently and as part of a team
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds, those at all levels within NBA and any high-level external contacts
Ability to travel as needed (up to 3 weeks for select assignments)
Demonstrated computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Education:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, journalism or a related field preferred
