Project Description: Fundraising

We’re looking for a savvy researcher and writer to join our team as a Grants Writer. The ideal candidate will have exceptional writing and research skills to gather documentation and apply to various funding bodies, formally seeking funding on behalf of Scholar and a Dream, Inc.

The Role:

As a Grants Writer, you will be responsible for researching, developing, and preparing grant proposals to corporations, foundations, federal contracts, and government grants. As a key member of the Scholar and a Dream team, you’ll play a critical role in our fundraising strategy, enabling the organization to meet its annual fundraising goals. You will work in partnership with our founding members to successfully apply for funding opportunities, report on program outcomes, and share our organization’s story from a strengths-based perspective.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to find new grant opportunities that align with Scholar and a Dream’s mission
  • Coordinate all stages of grantmaking, including reviewing requests, conducting due diligence, assessment, processing and tracking grants
  • Write letters of inquiry and grant proposals according to the requirements of each specific grant maker
  • Collect and synthesize relevant data and statistics regarding program attendance, the organization, and community for use in proposal writing.
  • Review, edit and finalize each document for submission on a timely basis
  • Manage all grant portals and keeps each portal up to date with needed requirements
  • Maintain the grants calendar of upcoming LOI, grant applications and reporting deadlines and hold the team accountable to meet those deadlines

About You:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience within the NGO/philanthropic sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (ability to write and edit persuasively)
  • Strong understanding of the role of philanthropy in supporting local grassroots groups to realize social change
  • Knowledge and familiarity with grantmaking processes and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, intentionality in working in diverse cultural contexts, and ability to build relationships with individuals with diverse personalities and styles
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimum supervision
  • Ability to translate programmatic information and data into concise, compelling, asset-based, and mission-centered narratives

This is a remote position that can be performed from anywhere in the United States, however, we prefer candidates who reside in the NYC metropolitan area. The salary for this position may range from $25-$40 per hour based on experience and skill sets. Please note that this position does not include benefits.
