Summary
Underwrites group insurance applications.

Description

  • 70% Screens applications to ensure accuracy of data entered into system and updates system with status of pending applications. Uses underwriting guidelines to make initial decisions to approve, decline, or assign received applications. Analyzes, rates, and processes new business proposals according to established guidelines.
  • 10% Provides quality customer service, responding accurately and timely to telephone and written inquiries from customers.
  • 10% Assists in establishing and maintaining written procedures for underwriting review. Prepares departmental reporting as needed.
  • 10% Prepares stop loss proposals and forwards to stop loss carriers for quotes.

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree OR
  • 4 years job related work experience OR
  • 4 years combined education and job related experience.

Required Work Experience:
  • One year of clerical, claims processing, or group insurance experience.

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, time management skills.
  • Strong analytical or critical thinking skills.
  • Good judgment skills.
  • Proficiency in spelling, punctuation, grammar skills.
  • Basic business math proficiency.

Required Software and Tools:
  • Microsoft Office.
