Description of Duties:
Reporting to the NCSSM Director of Physical Activity and Wellness, the Head Athletic Trainer and PAW Instructor is responsible for providing athletic training services for NCSSM students and visiting teams for varsity sports. Position will oversee the Assistant Athletic Trainer. This position will teach one to two sections of Emergency Care or physical activity classes per semester and provide administrative assistance to the Athletic Director.
Supervise and assist in the daily operations of the athletic training facility; provide coverage of practice and games (including travel) of assigned team(s) and assistance with conflict coverage. Provide daily treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; work with members of the Athletic Training/Sports Medicine staff to provide proper evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletically injured student-athletes and referral to associated health care professionals when necessary. Interface with coaches and parents/guardians regarding injured student-athletes. Maintain a stocked training room and complete supply orders. Follow all developed policies and procedures including the NATA Code of Ethics. Remain current on all state and national requirements for license renewal; agree to comply with all regulatory agency statutes, by-laws and mandates.
Prepare budget requests and manage inventory of supplies for athletic training facility operations. Provide backup coverage for Physical Activity staff with supervision of the Physical Education Center.
Build strong relationships with PAW staff, coaches, student life staff, and NCSSM staff to support wellness programs and activities. Assist with driving vehicles for athletic teams and events. Assist with uniform management and care.
This is a 10 month faculty position that requires flexible hours to work athletic and school events. This position requires the employee to work in person. It has the potential to be responsible for driving for school related business/transporting students and requires a valid driver’s license with no serious driving-related convictions. Must be insurable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience working effectively in team settings. Understanding of contemporary issues in education, particularly those related to physical activity, athletics and/or student wellness. Experience in instructing sports medicine, heath and physical activity classes.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to collaborate by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and parents. Planning, implementation, and evaluation skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to handle situations with great judgment.
Current CPR Instructor Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel) and proficiency in using the Google Applications Suite.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Education: Master's Degree Required. A Master's Degree in Athletic Training, Health or a related field.
North Carolina Certified Athletic Trainer License (30 days allowed to transfer from another state).
Current CPR Instructor Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Valid driver license with no serious driving-related convictions.
Experience: Minimum of three years of experience as a licensed athletic trainer in an educational setting. Experience teaching Emergency Care or similar health classes. Experience in a recreation, athletics, sports management, or educational setting. Experience working with supervising or advising student leaders.
