The James Beard Foundation PLATFORM is a mission-centered showcase kitchen, event, dining, and culinary demonstration space, as well as a vendor kiosk featuring visiting guest chefs. PLATFORM, which includes event space for up to 80 guests, is situated within the new Pier 57 Food Hall, home to 17 additional culinary kiosk vendors serving as an incubator for local small businesses and food entrepreneurs aligned with the Foundation’s mission of championing a standard of good food anchored in talent, equity, and sustainability.

Great Performances
Great Performances, which will operate PLATFORM, is a hospitality management company committed to collaboration, innovation, and quality. The woman owned business serving New York City for over 40 years is renowned for events catering as well as food service in celebrated New York City cultural institutions, including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Apollo Theater and others. Great Performances is the nation’s first caterer to own and operate its own organic farm, Katchkie Farm, located in Kinderhook, NY. Progressive from the start, the company consistently sets the pace for industry best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cost management
- Supply chain continuity
- Inventory management
- Maintain a operatable, clean, consistent work environment
- Following the CDC and the DOHMH specifications when it comes to office safety
- Be apart of every aspect of the facility and understand the mechanics
- Lead by example when working with organization and cleanliness
- Active knowledge of all service contracts, warranties, and operations
- Managing the facility to maintain operations
Job Responsibilities:
- Communicate Directly with Vendors ensuring that quality and price meet the expectations of the culinary team
- Ensuring that quotes match the pricing on the invoices.
- Setting a storage system that ensures food safety and product inventory management as a first in first out system
- Making certain that all inventory is accounted for and communicated to the culinary team of longs and shorts
- Communicating to our venues our buying guides and ordering specifications. One company one ordering guide
- Purchasing the correct amount leaning to the over not the short
- Reacting to shorts in a timely and effective manner
- Keeping the paper inventory at manageable levels and communicating shorts
- Overseeing Dish Crew
- Creating Dish Schedule
Costing
- Ensuring that all costs are accurate, and projections are followed
- Communicating changes in the systems in a timely manner and making certain that all reporting uses the most up to date costing
- Communicating to Culinary when items fall out of budget or seasonality
- Finding creative and timely replacements for out-of-stock items
