Position Title: Health Care Consultant

Department: Educational Services

Report to: Director of Educational Services

Job Summary: The Health Care Consultant (HCC) is under the direction of the Director of Educational Services. The HCC will assist programs in complying with the New York State Medication Administration Training (MAT) requirements and development of the required Health Care Plan (HCP). The HCC will foster/maintain an environment which promotes health and safety to the child care providers and the children in their care. The HCC must be willing to meet with providers on their schedules which may include but not limited to evening and weekend work as well as daytime hours.

Skill Requirements: Good communication skills both in person and on the phone. Willing to work as a team with other members of the department, as well as with staff from other departments in the agency. Ability to work with computerized systems tomaintain database and perform internet searches. Able to multi-task, balancing work load and complete paperwork in a timely fashion.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance and support to providers in all modalities (family and Group Family Child Care, Day Care Centers, School Aged Child Care Programs, and Legally Exempt Child Care settings) in the development, review, and approval of their Health Care Plans.
  • Site visits to ensure compliance with the HCP at least once during every licensing/registration period (every 2 years for a license exempt program serving subsidized children). A program may require more frequent visits to review and approve changes as needed.
  • Serve as a resource to the programs in the development and maintenance of appropriate health and safety procedures through on-site visits, telephone consultations, mailing and technical assistance.
  • Collaborate with the Child Care Council of Suffolk Medical Advisory Committee and other early childhood professionals as well as the licensing/registration staff to insure promotion of policies and procedures designed to protect the health and safety of both children and staff in child care programs.
  • Develop workshops on child health issues for providers which can be used to meet training requirements.
  • Schedule appointments with providers and coordinate with other staff as appropriate.
  • Maintain documentation and records as appropriate.
  • Performs other comparable and related job duties as assigned.
  • Schedule, prepare materials and conduct MAT classes for both on and off-site classes on a monthly basis.
  • Serve as a resource to providers regarding the MAT Renewal process.
  • Developing plan for accommodating providers who choose to take the MAT Independent Study (IS) course.
  • Update MAT curriculum and handbooks as required by SUNY on an ongoing basis.
  • Participate in CCC Info sessions for new providers.
  • Collaborate with other departments on any health issues affecting providers and/or staff.
  • Answer phone calls for Education Dept. to assist providers with training info & registration for classes.
  • Input provider info on DUCS for providers we are contracted with as their HCC (to track site visits, contracts & Certifications).
  • Trainings offered to providers on Emergency Medication Waiver.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • New York State License as a Registered Nurse
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a diverse community
  • Exhibits proactive problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel, Word), Internet Explorer, and various office machines (copier, fax, printers).

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • This position requires sitting at a desk for long periods of time, keyboarding, and phone use.
  • Travel to various locations is required.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work is required; presence required at some off-site functions and trainings.

Salary Range: dependent on qualifications
