Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assesses health education needs using appropriate assessment tools; including using primary and secondary data sources.
2. Designs and implements health programs in accordance with evidence-based strategies.
3. Evaluates usefulness and impact of health education programs.
4. Provides information to patients and the general public while maintaining patient confidentiality.
5. Attends conferences and classes and reads literature to learn of new developments in the area of interest.
6. Collaborates with other offices, departments, and agencies.
7. Assists in coordinating outreach programs.
8. Purchases or coordinates the preparation of educational materials.
9. Recruits and trains volunteers.
10. May participate with committees or organizations whose purpose supports the health education program.

Minimum Qualifications

There are two levels in the Health Educator position.


Health Educator I: Candidate must have a BS in health promotion or related field. Ability to demonstrate entry level competence in the 7 Areas of Responsibilities for Health Education or 10 Essential Functions of Public Health.


Health Educator II: Candidate must have a BS in health promotion or related field, and four or more years of health education experience. Must also possess and maintain certification as a CHES, MCHES, or CPH. Ability to demonstrate working-level professional knowledge in the 7 Areas of Responsibilities for Health Education or 10 Essential Functions of Public Health.


Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills required.


Training in a specific health area may be preferred.


This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
