If you are a dynamic, energetic Middle School or High School Physical Education, Health, Music, or Art teacher who has a passion for developing innovative education programs to serve the unique needs of children in grades 6-12, we are looking for you. Through our commitment to rigorous academics, social-emotional learning, deep family and community engagement, and health and wellness, we strive to create lifelong learners who are equipped to fulfill their vision of success in and out of the classroom. We are currently seeking dedicated, teachers in these content areas to teach students in our nonpublic school. Flexible part-time or contractual schedules are available.

About the Position

As a Salem School's content area classroom leader, the teacher is responsible for overseeing the classroom instruction for our students in the assigned content area. With a passion for helping all students succeed and reach their potential, the Salem School teacher will love working in a bright, active, positive environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for collaborative general education and special educators who enjoy working closely with a multidisciplinary team and other department staff to drive student success.

Skills, Attributes, and Essential Tasks

Be the leader of your classroom and work together with the direct support professional/instructional assistant to ensure a motivating and fun educational environment for your students.

Create a classroom environment that fosters, promotes, and develops an understanding of the standards in assigned content area.

Work directly with the students in one-on-one settings and in group instruction both in the classroom for your content area.

Provide a classroom environment that is student centered and utilizes visual strategies to support students in becoming independent learners.

Develop age and content appropriate lessons aligned to the Common Core State Curriculum for assigned content area.

Organize and maintain student grades / progress monitoring.

Administer required informal classroom assessments and formal state assessments.

Work closely with other classroom teachers and staff to create a cohesive, positive learning school culture and environment.

Ability to motivate students and use differentiated methods to teach a variety of student needs.

Excellent communication, organization, and teaching skills.

Experience with writing effective IEP's and with progress monitoring a plus.

Experience working with students with autism, intellectual disabilities, and multiple disabilities a plus.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Hold a Maryland professional teaching certificate in the following Specialty areas for grades PreK-12:

• Physical Education
• Health
• Music
• Art

Or

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in general education content area, Elementary or Secondary Education, or a related field or content area with strong academic preparation eligible for a Maryland State conditional teaching certificate.

Preferred: Master's degree

Minimum of one (1) year of successful academic teaching experience. Preferred: Special Education teaching experience in a self-contained or nonpublic school setting.

Experience working with multiple disabilities, including autism, intellectual disabilities a plus.

This is a full-time or part-time, contractual, position with hourly salary range between

$25-$75 per hour, commensurate with experience. Hours are flexible and may range from 2-4 hours per day up to 20 hours per week.

Originally founded in 1979, Maryland Salem Children's Trust is a nonpublic educational and residential program, located on a 380-acre campus in Garrett County between Grantsville and Frostburg, Maryland. Maryland Salem Children's Trust has partnered with Grafton Integrated Health Network (www.grafton.org) to implement a Maryland approved special education and residential education nonpublic school using Grafton's trauma-informed education, residential, and clinical models.
