Health, Safety, Environmental Compliance Manager
Job description
We are currently recruiting for a Health, safety, and Environmental Manager position at our Cricket Valley Energy Plant in Dover Plains NY. Cricket Valley Energy is a state-of-the-art nominally rated 1100 MW facility that employs a 3 X 1 X 1 configuration with GE 7FA.05 Combustion Turbines, ALSTOM HRSG and Alstom Steam Turbines.
Job Responsibilities
- Candidate should be able to support the Plant's management team with strategic HSE planning and program development to further improve the Plant's HSE performance. The position will report to the the Facility manager and Corporate HSE Manager.
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Coordinate and manage the implementation of Ethos Energy Group's HSE policies and procedures.
- Conduct periodic reviews of the Plant's HSE programs and update as necessary to meet applicable regulations and/or corporate directives.
- Manage the environmental and safety compliance program to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
- Review, update, and train Plant employees on applicable plant emergency response plans, spill prevention plans, fire prevention plans, risk management plans, storm water pollution prevention plans, environmental compliance and other site-specific HSE plans and programs.
- Communicate with regulatory agencies as necessary to address environmental reporting, deviations, and notices of non-compliance and be compliant on quarterly and yearly reports.
- Coordinate and/or perform required environmental reporting and testing activities and ensure that required environmental programs and permits are properly implemented and that the Plant maintains full compliance with all permits.
- Ensure that quarterly plant safety inspections and periodic environmental program reviews are performed, and corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
- Conduct and coordinate injury and near-miss investigations and generate related reports focusing on the root cause and ensuring that corrective measures are identified and implemented.
- Interface with Ethos Energy Group's management team to assist in developing and implementing Plant annual HSE plans, goals, and strategies for improving safety and environmental performance.
- Conduct, manage and track required safety and environmental related training of plant employees through third-party computer-based software and other facility training records.
- Continually promote Safety and Environmental issues which affect the site
- Chair of the site Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Maintain all required HSE and medical screening records as required by applicable regulations and/or EEG procedures.
- Operate testing equipment and conduct and/or manage scheduled chemistry, environmental and performance testing as needed. Be able to generate reports and recommendations from this Testing. If testing is conducted by a contractor review and approve reports.
- Maintain the facility Chemistry Laboratory QA/QC Program and Chemical Hygiene Plan.
- A working knowledge of current environmental regulations in all media is desired and familiarity with the regulatory process on the local, state, and federal level along with the ability to read and interpret regulations is essential.
- Strive to improve HSE skills and knowledge through continuing education and training.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a power plant environment is required.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge of environmental and safety regulations, accident/injury prevention, computer and communication skills.
- Ability to deal with complex safety situations is required.
- Must be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative and ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- This position supports the facility. As such, frequent travel is not a core requirement; however, the candidate should be able to perform minimal travel as necessary.
- A minimum of five years relevant experience is required for this position, preferably in New York.
- Strong communication skills and having a hands-on approach are required.
Education Requirements
- A four-year degree or commensurate experience/professional training is required.
Physical Requirements
- Position requires periods of intense physical exertion, including walking, climbing, and lifting.
- Ability to lift and move material up to 50 pounds.
