Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal HR Business Partner (HRBP) (Level 3) or Senior Principal HR Business Partner (HRBP) (Level 4) to provide HR consultation, subject matter expertise and partnership for our Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD). The selected candidate will partner with the business to develop and implement solutions and deliver exceptional HR support in a challenging and dynamic business environment.
The HR Business Partner will address challenges and achieve results, take ownership of projects, demonstrate self-directed learning, and provide and accept continuous feedback in a supportive work environment that offers continued opportunities for growth and development. The person hired into this role will sit in Redondo Beach CA. Will consider a hybrid work solution, within commutable distance to our Redondo Beach CA facility.
Overview of the Role:
- Serve as the business partner and consultant to clients including: organizational and talent development, performance management, employee relations, compensation, rewards and recognition.
- Diagnose organizational needs and develop practical, creative/innovative, data-driven solutions to increase team and organizational performance and advance the business strategy. Ensure solutions are effectively implemented and sustained.
- Organize, prioritize, plan, schedule, and execute Business Unit/Division/Sector/Corporate HR projects and initiatives.
Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Lead bench talent reviews for assigned functional client groups.
- Consult with leadership to define meaningful development experiences for identified critical talent.
- Coach leadership on creating development, succession, knowledge transfer plans.
- Review and analyze talent metrics to recommend systemic improvements, then partner with leadership to implement, with an eye on driving engagement and retention.
- Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition organization on forecasting resource needs and ensuring a strong talent pipeline. Provide candidate assessments through participation in select key position(s) interview(s).
- Consult with leadership on delivering continuous performance and development feedback, which includes throughout the year, mid-year and year-end evaluations.
- Consult with leadership on development and execution of an integrated approach and strategy on performance improvement (performance coaching, employee discussions, disciplinary actions).
- Coach leadership on effectively responding to employee relations concerns. Advise leadership on managing employee and management performance and conduct. Perform investigations and partner with leadership, ER Center of Excellence (COE), Legal, and Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Where necessary, facilitate leadership training on performance and conduct processes, tools, and approaches. Interpret/guide employees and leaders on HR policies and procedures.
- Conduct compensation assessments and consult with leadership in support of equity adjustments, promotions, leveling, offers and incentives.
- Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation. Familiar with Federal and State laws.
- Champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts, keeping DE&I central to all talent and organizational activities.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
This role may be filled at either a level 3 or a level 4.
Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:
- Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of HR experience – OR – a Master’s degree with 4+ years of HR experience.
Basic Qualifications for a level 4:
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of HR experience – OR – a Master’s degree with 8+ years of HR experience.
Additional Basic Qualifications for both levels:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. US Citizenship is a prerequisite.
- Proven success in influencing, coaching, and partnering with leaders, peers, stakeholders, COEs to drive business outcomes.
- Proficient in Microsoft office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
- Proven ability to operate with autonomy and discretion, use of sound judgment in all situations, while operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Track record of influencing through data-driven recommendations.
- Proven project management and execution skills.
- Experience in an Engineering, Manufacturing, and/or A&D environment.
- Experience in a matrix organization with a large client group (500-1000).
- Current Top Secret security clearance. US Citizenship is a prerequisite.
