Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a trainer for the Department. Evaluates, conducts and participates in developing statewide training. Delivers technical human resources and agency wide training sessions. Assists in the development of training materials using word processing and presentation software tools. Serves as a resource for staff by providing general human resources information. Ensures that training is scheduled and provided for staff.
Job Responsibilities
1. Serves as a trainer for the Department.
- Evaluates, conducts and participates in developing statewide training.
- Participates in developing and conducting technical human resources and agency wide training sessions.
- Prepares and conducts other related trainings regarding Department procedures.
- Meets with management and staff to gather information regarding training needs.
- Sets forth recommended trainings based on the information gathered.
- Ensures that federal, state and Department requirements are met and followed.
2. Participates in the development and design of training materials using word processing and presentation software tools including PowerPoint and other Microsoft products.
- Participates in the development of training for presentation via the Web.
- Updates and converts training materials previously developed.
- Assists with proofreading training materials produced by other trainers and submits suggested changes to supervisor.
3. Serves as a resource for staff by providing general training information to staff.
- Answers questions and explains processes, referring the more complex and technical issues to the Agency Training Manager.
- Answers questions regarding policies and explains best practices.
- Assists staff to identify and resolve problems.
- Provides further clarification of classroom and web trainings.
- Provides input in internal meetings regarding human resource processes.
- Assists with special projects.

4. Maintain the Workforce Development Training SharePoint site, posting information about training opportunities for IDPH employees, including State agency training calendars, course descriptions, and employee reviews.
- Coordinate employee enrollment into State-sponsored training classes.
- Survey employees who attend State-sponsored training classes and post their feedback on the Workforce Development Training site.
- Upon request from employees and supervisors, suggest relevant training courses for staff needs.
5. Ensures that training is scheduled through the supervisors and provided to staff.
- Coordinates training schedule with staff.
- Ensures all training material is ready for use prior to training classes.
- Prepares reference material for use by trainees.
- Completes evaluations of trainees and provides to supervisors.
6. Coordinate employee registration into the Interview & Selection training for Rutan certification.
- Sends office-specific quarterly updates of all Rutan certified employees.
7. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college.
- Requires one year of professional experience, preferably in human resources, or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year experience evaluating, conducting and participating in developing training.
- One year experience participating in the development and design of training materials using word processing and presentation software tools.
- One year experience providing general training information.
- One year experience creating interactive, multimedia presentations.
- One year experience coordinating training schedules.
- One year experience assisting with developing presentations and handouts to aid in overall learning of technical programs including but not limited to Teams, Smartsheets, etc.
