We are looking for highly motivated and skilled In School Suspension (ISS) Coordinator to join our team at Cardozo Elementary School, District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). Position Overview

The In School Suspension Coordinator is responsible for monitoring the behavior of students assignmed to in-school suspension, conducting in-school suspension programs, and generally enforcing the established rules and regulations of the in-school suspension program. This position is a safety-sensitive position. As a result, throughout employment this position will be subject to the Employee Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy.

The In School Suspension Coordinator will report to the Principal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Monitors students who have been assigned to in-school suspension.
  • Liaises with Clerk daily to ascertain daily attendance.
  • Explains expected conduct and appropriate behavior to students.
  • Discusses student behavior with parents, teachers and administrators, and reports achievements to stakeholders.
  • Monitors and reports inappropriate behavior by students to administration.
  • Assigns and checks student work during suspension periods, and reviews student progress.
  • Monitors hallways before and after school.
  • Escorts students during break periods and lunch periods.
  • Records and files records on students receiving in-school suspension and detention.
  • Holds after school detention.
  • Maintains records on students receiving out-of-school suspensions. Mails letters about suspensions to parents.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree or has earned at least 48 college credit hours from an accredited college or university, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.
  • Experience working in a school monitoring student behavior a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,491.00 - $45,477.00 per year
