A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN AUTOMATION ENGINEER
As an automation engineer, your work helps to keep our production staff working efficiently and safely. You assist with the electrical and mechanical installation of robots and machines. You program robots, cameras, controllers, and interfaces. You design and develop robotic applications and automated processes. Not only do you design, but you also build electrical cabinets, fixtures, actuators, structures, and stands for robots and machines. You drive continual improvement of foundry and machine shop operations. You'll drive adoption of new technologies and processes (automation, robotics, manufacturing software, data analytics, etc.) to achieve greater efficiency, cost reduction and quality improvement. In this role, you will perform the research and development on new technologies necessary to tackle complex assembly and automation. You are eager to learn and develop your skills as an industrial automation engineer!
AUTOMATION ENGINEER QUALIFICATIONS
Some mechanical, electrical, or software engineering background is preferred. We would prefer 5 - 10 years' experience working with robots, even better if in a manufacturing environment. Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with robotics/automation, understanding diagrams and schematics including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and bill of materials. Works efficiently with little supervision and has ability to utilize available resources to troubleshoot and repair machinery. Experience with PLC and HMI programming and setting up industrial communication protocols and VFD configuration a plus.
