Industrial Safety Specialist 1 - Nuclear Fuel Services - Erwin, TN

Summary Description of Job:

Supports development, implementation, and maintenance of NFS safety programs. Assists in development, preparation, and completion of program documents, instructions, and checklists. Assists with, and may independently execute, safety program elements and responsibilities to protect the health and safety of NFS employees. Participates in team evaluations of processes and activities for new or modified plant facilities processes, systems, and components. Provides or utilizes equipment, performs minor testing and monitoring, and collects and reports data, and performs routine data analysis and interpretation. Evaluates impact of safety program requirements and initiatives on the Industrial Safety Program. Implements assigned program assessment, measurement, and reporting activities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities of Job:

• Directs and coordinates assigned Radiation Technician for the industrial safety sections.
• Reviews program requirements to determine impact as assigned.
• Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of industrial safety programs and processes.
• Assists with the development, preparation, and implementation of program documents, instructions, and checklists.
• Implements safety program elements and responsibilities to protect the health and safety of NFS employees.
• Provides equipment, performs minor testing and monitoring, collects data and performs routine analysis and interpretation.
• Independently executes program elements as assigned, including program assessment, measurements, safety controls, and reporting activities.
• Assist with/conduct industrial safety reviews in facilities, hazard analysis, walk downs, and periodic inspections/audits/assessments.
• Identifies activities requiring corrective actions and recommends program modifications and/or improvements.
• Supports investigative studies, including participation in safety evaluations of processes and activities for new or modified plant facilities, processes, systems, and components.
• Assists with reviews of operational and maintenance procedures to determine hazards and safety needs and precautions.
• Assists with review of work request. Support special project activities.

Educational Requirements of Job:

B. S. - Hygiene, Safety, Engineering, Science or other degree as deemed appropriate by the Industrial Safety Manager OR equivalent experience acceptable with at least two year's relevant experience for each year college (i.e. eight years' experience in lieu of a degree) or is a Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist.

Experience Requirements (Beyond educational or equivalent):

With a B. S. degree one (1) to two (2) years' experience in industrial safety disciplines sufficient to demonstrate ability to apply technical knowledge to plant situations and requirements. With a M. S. degree one year or less years' experience in industrial safety disciplines sufficient to demonstrate ability to apply technical knowledge to plant situations and requirements. Without B. S. degree, nine (9) years' revelant experience is required.
