Job description
Under limited supervision from the Warden, Chief of Inmate Grievance Branch and Central Office Inmate Grievance administrators;
  • Performs a wide variety of administrative duties for the inmate grievance branch.
  • Investigates grievances by conducting thorough and impartial inquiries of circumstances pertaining to grievances through interviews with inmates and staff.
  • Analyzes specific information obtained and prepares recommendations designed to resolve problems at the lowest possible level.
  • Reviews and researches SCDC policies, relevant/mandated statues, disciplinary tapes, and any documentation related to grievances.
  • Interprets rules, regulations, policies and procedures as they apply to day- to-day operations and to the grievance procedures, accepts and forwards appeals to the central office.
  • Serves inmates with step 1 and step 2 grievance decisions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A High School diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
A Bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements: (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).

  • High School Diploma.

  • Four (4) years responsible clerical, secretarial or administrative experience preferably in a correctional or law enforcement setting.
  • A Bachelor degree may be substituted for the related work experience.
  • Required to have experience in personal computer, leadership, law enforcement/paralegal/research and investigation.
