- Assists the teacher in implementing the instructional and socialization program for PreK students
- Assists teacher to ensure safe arrival and departure of students each day
- Supervises children during center instruction
- Carries out program activities with small groups of children involving gross motor skills, play activities, teaching personal hygiene and social skills
- Prepares breakfast and lunch for children during center time and supervises students during these meals
- Provides behavioral support to students
- Assists with classroom management and behavior modification
- Assists with field trips, community-based instruction, and other activities
- Assists students with personal care tasks
- Assists with creation, organization, and distribution of instructional materials
- Reports student concerns directly and promptly to the teacher and assists with student resolution
- Performs other duties as assigned
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classrooms; ability to maintain records and confidentiality; ability to operate audio visual, standard office and computer equipment; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students and administrators. Must be able to follow oral and written directions, maintain order within a classroom independent of the teacher, and possess a working knowledge of computers.
Must hold a Child Development Associate credential or be enrolled in a program that will lead to an associates or bachelors degree or be enrolled in a Child Development Associate credential program to be completed within two years of hire. Associates degree or higher in early childhood education preferred.
