Position: Crisis Intervention Specialist [0984] E
Program: Amarillo, Texas – Crisis Intervention
Salary: $46,009.60 Annually
Shift available: Full-Time
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Staff will maintain ethical and professional communications at all times using respectful Trauma-Informed Care language
- The Crisis Intervention Specialist (CIS) will provide short-term intervention strategies to individuals with IDD in crisis to protect the person, caregiver, and/or others living in the home
- The CIS will provide intervention to prevent or decrease hospitalization, state supported living center admissions, and to minimize the crisis situation to increase the likelihood of maintaining the person in the community
- The CIS will assess the individual and will develop skills training based on the needs that are identified, to help the individual, family, and/or staff to appropriately learn to handle crisis situations and to be able to cope with them
- The CIS will also assist the individual to transition successfully back into the community, if out of home respite is utilized
- The Crisis Intervention Specialist works under the supervision of the Director of Developmental Health and has considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment
- Services are provided in compliance with required principles and standards (HCS, TxHML, and GR)
- Flexibility in scheduling is required, including after office hours
- Adheres to TPC Business Code of Conduct and reports concerns if ethical and/or business standards defined in the code are compromised
Required qualifications to be successful in the job:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a major in psychology, sociology, social work, counseling, or other related human services field
- Two (2) years experience of case management
- Graduate work in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of experience
- Two (2) years experience working with persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have mental health and behavior support needs or linking people with IDD to mental health supports; in addition to, at least one (1) year of required experience as a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license and be insurable under agency vehicle policy
- Must be 18 years of age or older
Preferred qualifications to be successful in the job:
- Ability of communicate verbally and in writing
- Good knowledge of community resources
- Some experience in assessing and writing behavioral plans
