Description
This position is a senior role responsible for the coordination of administration and efficient operation of the information systems that support core operations of Bedford County. The candidate will need to be able to demonstrate the ability and experience to manage and balance the needs of multiple departments with the County enterprise framework. The IT Specialist II will have strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the benefit of IT-system investments. This position performs monitoring and oversight of system security processes. Evaluates security-related functions and implement strategies for existing and planned system and network software. Coordinates the response to cybersecurity alerts and incidents. Evaluates operational and technical safeguards, and protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and the information in them. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director and the general direction of the IT Director, with moderate latitude for independent judgment and action.
Requirements
- Expertise in anti-virus software, intrusion detection, firewalls, and content filtering
- Knowledge of risk assessment tools, technologies, and methods
- Expertise in designing secure networks, systems, and application architectures
- Planning, researching, and developing security policies, standards, and procedures
- System administration, supporting multiple platforms and applications
- Expertise with mobile code, malicious code, and anti-virus software
- Evaluates existing and planned technology environments for compliance with information security policies and standards.
- Knowledge of standard security practices and procedures of developing and implementing an information security program;
- Knowledge of standard security practices, network architecture, routing, and TCP/IP protocols, Microsoft operating systems, use of third-party applications and native scripts and languages, risk assessment process and practices, general business processes and standards associated with areas of assignment;
- Knowledge of the current principles, practices, procedures, data privacy regulations, and compliance issues of information technology and government (local, state, federal) organizations.
- Knowledge of current threats and exploits including experience with threat detection, analysis, and remediation.
- Knowledge and experience in endpoint security solutions, including file
- Specific experience with some or all of the following technologies:
- Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
- HPE Simplivity hyper-converged infrastructure
- Cisco network infrastructure: routers, switches, Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA), Advanced Malware Protection (AMP), FirePOWER, Meraki, Cisco Prime, FirePOWER Management Center
- VMWare and vCenter
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively in a diverse professional team and/or independently. Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with employees, county officials, vendors, and the public. Strong disposition for delivering high-quality results. Strong customer service orientation.
One of the following:
- Two-year college/vocational technical degree in a technology field OR an approved information technology certificate
- OR Bachelor's degree in a technology field PLUS 1 year of IT experience
- OR 5 years of technology experience
Salary Range
$ 46,247.58 -
$ 61,278.04
Actual salary dependent on qualifications and experience
