- Perform day-to-day supporting tasks for the MLB player to ensure the player can demonstrate his maximum potential performance at the games.
- Organize and maintain a high-volume calendar of the player by creating efficiency and balance in daily/weekly/monthly schedules.
- Coordinate heavy and complex travel including all associated logistics. Travel with the player to support the games outside the home-base stadium.
- Provide translation and liaison support to the player with the team, team members, MLB management, and external stakeholders as a collaborative and reliable representative.
- Handle internal and external requests for time, utilizing judgment in prioritization, to meet scheduling changes and shift priorities.
- Screen phones and visitors on behalf of the player and prepare correspondences accordingly.
- Administer documentation preparation, organization, and filling.
- Assist in recording meeting minutes.
- Plan and coordinate special projects including endorsements and personal appearances.
- Manage emerging issues and needs in a proactive manner with problem-solving skills even in situations with challenges.
- Perform other varying personal and professional administrative tasks as needed.
- Act as a representative for an athlete when negotiating a new contract, contract extensions, or endorsement signings. Review market trends and the latest contract signings, make offers and counteroffers, and explain contract details to players while keeping the athlete’s best interests in focus.
- Effectively make a sales pitch on the client to present the players to team owners and companies seeking endorsements. Manage the marketing and promotion of athletes. Supply news outlets and maintain “damage control” and maintain their professional images when any negative actions are displayed by the players on the contract.
- Scout new clients by using cold-calling techniques and referral systems. Assess new talent by viewing games and contacting players seeking representation.
- Help to ensure that clients are building assets, managing expenses, and making the proper distribution of income for payments, savings, and investments.
- Form relationships with players, plan the sponsor parties and event attendance coordination, assist in off-season training and nutritional needs, etc.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management preferred.
- Fluency in Japanese and English.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and professionally with athletes, team executives, lawyers, and tax professionals.
- Flexibility to work overtime and possible relocation
- Analytical skills to analyze contract specifics, endorsement deals, and other documents pertaining to their client’s finances.
- Time management skills to help and support clients’ various requests in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of baseball can be drawn on when negotiating contracts or building client relationships.
