Job Summary
The Lead Engineer - System Protection & Control - NECEC will be responsible for Protection and Control for the NECEC Project with a focus on CMP AC upgrades. The New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) is the largest clean energy project in New England. Once in service, it will deliver 1,200 megawatts of clean, reliable power from Canada to Maine and the region.

The project consists of 145 miles of new transmission line that will tie into the existing transmission system in Lewiston, ME. Additional project components include upgrading 50 miles of existing alternating current transmission lines, construction of a new converter station, a new substation and multiple system upgrades, including the existing BPS.

The Engineer in Projects organization is an engineer position with responsibilities over the projects assigned to the Unit where the Engineer will be assigned to, ensuring the project is engineered in compliance with regulations, company standards, and consistently across the board. The position will be responsible for managing external contractors, reviewing and approving P&C designs to ensure safe, compliant, timely and efficient system operation. The position will conduct analysis, develop estimates and apply engineering standards to drive projects completion. Ensure all protective system designs meet applicable Company, local, state and national codes and standards (NESC, FERC, NERC, NPCC, ISO-NE, MPUC, etc).
Position reports to the Unit Manager, but the position will work day-to-day in cross functional project team and support project needs as dictated by the Project Manager and Unit Manager.
Experience with control and protection schematics and single one-line diagrams and knowledge of national and international standards, regulations, and compliance requirements associated with power system protection.

  • Project detailed engineering, designs and calculations using standard methodology & principles including all phases such as: scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, engineering design, construction, and closeout.
  • Maintain, & understand drawings (e.g., schematics, one-line diagrams, etc...).
  • Develop & specify equipment, assemble documents & other requirements for assignments of projects using depth & breadth of expertise in own discipline.
  • Ensure all engineering designs implemented by the company meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards.
  • Ability to collaborate within project team and across departments.
  • Work independently although supervision might be required.

Education & Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required
  • 3-5 years minimum relevant experience
