Job Description:
Job Summary
This Senior-level Engineering position will focus on providing advanced Engineering support and expertise to the Southwest Technical Operations organization. This includes specialized aircraft, engine, and component repairs, modifications, and troubleshooting accomplished on the Southwest fleet
Responsibilities
Evaluate and process manufacturers service documents (Service Bulletins, Service Letters, etc.), regulatory requirements (Airworthiness Directives, Notice of Proposed Rule Making, Code of Federal Regulations, etc
Responsible for development and substantiation of in-house repairs and modifications for implementation into the SWA maintenance program
Develop and substantiate Reliability improvements through research, root-cause analysis and implementation through corrective action plans
Acts as a subject matter expert in their assigned areas of responsibility
Oversees assigned projects to ensure success and timeliness of deliverables (e.g. scheduling, technical risk oversight, deliverables tracking)
Leads activities related to OEM products, Supplemental Type Certificate Holder products, Regulatory agencies, etc
Point of contact for troubleshooting and resolving in-service issues
Acts as a mentor/leader of the engineering Team, including responsibility for the training of entry level engineers
Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager and can assume the duties of the Engineering Manager as delegate
Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to work well with others as part of a team
Must be able to work well under pressure and with scheduled timelines
Must be able to communicate effectively via telephone as well as within group settings. Excellent writing skills are required as well as a proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Self motivation and initiative to achieve consistent results are required
Must be conscientious and detail oriented
Must have working knowledge of FAR's with a strong emphasis on Part 25 requirements and Part 121 operations
Must be proficient in common business computer applications
Must have some CAD design skills and experience
Must have an excellent understanding of technical data and mechanical operations
Creates an atmosphere of trust and respect between self and others in the work group
Inspires peers to adhere to the ethical standards and values of the organization
Must be able to communicate effectively inside and outside the engineering organization
Must be able to assimilate technical data for verbal and written response to regulatory authorities
Must be self-motivated and able to prioritize multiple tasks
Must be able to work under tight time constraints to accomplish assignments and projects
Must be able to identify opportunities and assignments which help Team members develop and grow professionally
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree - Bachelor of Science in an ABET accredited course of study in Engineering
Preferred: Advanced Degree - Engineering or related field
Experience
Expert Level - Airline/OEM/MRO Engineering

Licensing/Certification
Preferred: FAA Airframe and Powerplant license
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
