The Indian Health Service, an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services, is responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The provision of health services to members of federally-recognized tribes grew out of the special government-to-government relationship between the federal government and Indian tribes. This relationship, established in 1787, is based on Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, and has been given form and substance by numerous treaties, laws, Supreme Court decisions, and Executive Orders. The IHS is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for Indian people, and its goal is to raise their health status to the highest possible level. The IHS provides a comprehensive health service delivery system for American Indians and Alaska Natives.

Provides basic nursing duties as an assistant to physicians and registered nurses.

HCRS, Inc. is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who will work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, private homes, and physician's offices. Their responsibility is to provide basic care to patients, including taking vitals, ensuring the comfort of patients, and administering medications. LPNs work under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and doctors. In this role, you will be providing patients with excellent routine care as well as collaborating with the team on patient treatment and support. You will be required to work alone or with little supervision and must be flexible to work on a variable schedule.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Tasks and Responsibilities will include the following but not limited to:

  • Takes the initial medical history on all patients. Performs visual assessment (heart, lungs), observation, and some physical assessment (heart, lungs), observing and recognizing unusual or complex problems and making proper disposition. Assists physician during patient examinations.
  • Provides routine nursing cares including patient transfers, patient assessments, and executes nursing care plans.
  • Records accurate, timely, and appropriate information in the medical record through use of SOAP or DAR method of charting, which include vital signs, laboratory and x-ray data and physical findings.
  • Teaches patients about the nature of the illness, treatment, and general health measures.
  • Knowledge of medical history taking techniques, physical assessment, and normal body function; disease processes, signs, symptoms, and treatment of acute minor illnesses; patho-physiology of inflammation, infection, allergic, reactions, and such diseases as respiratory, gastrointestinal, dermatological, urological, and musculoskeletal conditions, normal and abnormal vital signs, and normal and abnormal neurological signs and symptoms; signs and symptoms indicative of emergent or life threatening nature.
  • Screening of patients; Collecting COVID specimen; Supporting COVID vaccine clinics; Supporting efforts to identify and isolate COVID patients and providing patient education; and/or
  • Providing direct patient care services at the IHS Emergency Department, Inpatient/Outpatient Department, Car Clinics, Public Health Nursing Program field, and/or other IHS Healthcare Service locations.

Minimum Qualifications/ Experience Requirement:

  • Experience and licensing per state requirements; and/or
  • Fully vaccinated with COVID19 vaccine.

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience Requirement:

  • Qualified candidates who are local to the community or reservation;
  • Candidates who can provide onsite support;
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric, and/or Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certifications; and/or
  • Experience in Public Health/Community Health, Behavioral Health, and Substance Abuse
