Job Summary*
The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the Beach Lifeguard position. To perform public safety work in the enforcement of regulations and protection of life at a municipal beach. Incumbents in this classification exercise a high degree of responsibility for the safety of bathers and provide assistance on-the-scene emergency medical care, basic life support (BLS), and transport of patients. Work is performed in accordance with department rules and City ordinances governing the public use of beaches. Incumbents in this class must work out of doors in various weather conditions, often in dangerous currents and surf conditions, and may be exposed to ultraviolet radiation and infectious disease.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Patrols beach area on foot and through stationing in an observation tower or rescue vehicle, constantly scanning for persons in dangerous situations or in need of assistance.
- Enforces all rules, ordinances, and state statutes governing public beach operations to prevent accidents and maintain order.
- Assists or rescues swimmers in distress utilizing appropriate rescue techniques and renders first aid or resuscitation to swimmers following established medical emergency protocols.
- Maintains rescue vehicles, rescue equipment, first aid equipment and performs custodial.
- Maintains current certification(s) and standards of physical fitness.
Qualifications
What's required:* (Minimum Requirements)*

High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year open water lifeguarding experience or other type of open water experience
- Possession of a valid CPR card for the Professional Rescuer.
- USLA Surf Lifesaving Academy Certification.
- Possess a valid FL DOT Emergency Medical Responder or a FL EMT Certification.
What's preferred: (Desired Requirements)
- At least 2 years open water lifeguarding experience or other type of open water experience
- SCUBA certified
- PWC operator or completion of USCG boating safety course
- EVOC (Emergency vehicle operations course) certified
- Possess a valid FL DOT Emergency Medical Responder or a FL EMT Certification
This position is on-call as needed and does not qualify for benefits.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.16 - $31.74 per hour
