Lifeguard
Position Summary
Under general supervision, ensures the safety of patrons of our aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility.
- Acts immediately and appropriately as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
- Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
- Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
- CPR Certified required.
- Current certification as Lifeguard by a recognized source of training.
Experience
- None required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situation.
- Skill in the application of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques.
- Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
- Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
- Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
- Ability to complete all physical tasks as required to satisfactory.
- Ability to adhere to University & departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to maintain a neat an clean environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and events in a fluid, changing environment.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, blue prints and schematic.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
