Position Summary
Completes mail processing and distribution-related duties for incoming and outgoing mail and packages according to best practice to ensure timely receipt and quality handling of incoming and outgoing U.S. and institutional mail. This position may work with students to perform this task. This position shares responsibility for inspecting and verifying MRO (Maintenance Repair and Operations) inventory for the Facilities Maintenance storeroom. This position hires and coordinates student workers and manages the Central Stores inventory and warehouse space. This position oversees the postage machine and mail accounts.
Responsibilities
- Completes mail and package shipment and delivery transactions and associated activities under direct supervision according to customer specifications and in conjunction with established pickup and delivery schedules, rules, and regulations
- Investigates and troubleshoots lost or misdirected mail items
- Processes notifications to appropriate entities to relay delivery status and provide excellent customer service
- Inspects and verifies MRO (Maintenance Repair and Operations) inventory for the Facilities Maintenance storeroom against packing lists, purchase orders and work orders
- Hire and coordinate student workers for mail and package delivery across campus
- Manage the Central Stores inventory and warehouse floor space
- Oversee central postage machine and postage accounts
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Ability to train and mentor student employees
- Demonstrated ability to utilize a computer for internet searches, Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Excel and Word
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to lift, carry or push goods sometimes weighing as much as 50 lbs.
- Ability to operate hand jacks and power equipment and drive a forklift upon proper training
- Ability to multitask and work independently with little supervision
- Maintain a valid driver’s license that permits Wisconsin certification to drive University vehicles
- Ability to pass post offer employment test
- High school diploma required
- Ability to meet delivery schedules while working in a fast-paced environment in which frequent interruptions are the norm
- Experience with mail sorting processes and operation of postage meters and other postal equipment preferred
- Experience with electronic mail and package tracking processes and equipment preferred
