BENEFITS
The Streets Maintenance Worker performs unskilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance and repair of various infrastructure, including parks, streets, trails, sidewalks, bridges, roadsides, irrigation systems, drainage systems, and signage. As a part-time position, the incumbents receive training to develop skills and proficiency necessary to perform the job.
- Maintains and repairs streets, roads, and public grounds as assigned including removing and replacing road materials, mowing and trimming rights-of-way, weed control, litter removal, and sign maintenance
- Maintains parks, trails, open space and public rights-of-way as assigned including planting trees and shrubs; maintaining irrigation systems; mowing and trimming lawns, shrubs and trees; weed control; raking leaves; and litter removal
- Operates a variety of equipment including, mowers, weed eaters, tractors, turf-vacs, rototillers, and miscellaneous hand tools
- Completes and submits daily work reports, work orders, and payroll timesheets in an accurate and timely manner
- Inspects and maintains assigned equipment and vehicles by checking fluid levels of vehicles and equipment
- Cleans assigned vehicles and equipment
- Clears ice and snow from streets, roads, parking lots and sidewalks to insure the safety of the community
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitary conditions of restrooms as assigned in order to promote personal hygiene and provide operational public facilities
- Assists with installation and maintenance of drainage systems
- Assists with traffic control signs, barricades, and flagging
- Assists in preparations and setup for City-wide and department special events which may require flexed scheduling and working on holidays
- Offers assistance to co-workers when needed
- Keeps supervisor apprised of issues and concerns within the organization
- Accepts constructive input and implements suggestions for improvement
- Strives to achieve safety for the traveling public
- Applies chemicals, fertilizers, and other hazardous materials following all safety precautions
- Operates hand tools, vehicles and equipment following all safety precautions
- Promotes a culture of safety in the workplace and reports safety
- All employees must model and demonstrate the City Values at all times during the course of employment; to include: Integrity, Collaboration, Innovation, Respect and Excellence.
Must be at least 18 years of age; some municipal maintenance experience preferred. Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license for all positions requiring operation of a City vehicle.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic knowledge or ability to learn streets, parks, trails, and open space maintenance- Knowledge of safe operating procedures for heavy equipment, machines, tools, and toxic agents
- Ability to learn the methods, practices, and procedures of road maintenance, landscape maintenance, and general maintenance of City facilities
- Ability to learn City policies and procedures
- Ability to understand written and verbal assignments, asks questions if needed
- Ability to take responsibility for own actions when errors and mistakes are made to allow for learning from those mistakes
- Ability to accept new work assignments
- Ability to cooperate with co-workers, supervisor and other departments to foster spirit of team environment
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly and respectfully in order to improve processes
- Ability to develop relationship with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to read, understand, and complete written requests and work assignments
- Ability to understand and respond appropriately to verbal directions
- Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and the public
- Ability to learn industry standards and codes and implement into the daily completion of projects
- Driving: May need ability to drive a city or personal vehicle in the normal course of business
- Office Equipment: Daily use of computer, keyboard, tablet, copier, scanner, printer, calculator, phone. Daily use of software programs including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Word, Excel, Cartegraph
- Other Equipment: Air compressor, rotor-tiller, aerator, trencher, weed trimmers, backpack blowers, trailer, chainsaw, and hand tools
- Physical Activities: High physical activity that may include walking, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying
- Lifting: Frequently lifts, carries, and exerts up to 80 pounds. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Vision and Hearing: Must have visual acuity to see and read paper and electronic documents. Must be able to answer telephones, communicate conversation and respond to verbal inquires. Must be able to differentiate color and shades of color and recognize standard street signage. Must be able to recognize sound on construction sites that indicate nearby equipment and/or safety hazards
- Exposure to Environmental Conditions: Will be exposed to extreme heat, cold, dry, wet, odors, smoke, loud noises, vibrations, dust or intense light. Exposure to chemicals including cleaners, solvents, paints, and other toxic agents. Work may be performed in precarious or tight spaces.
- Schedule: Position generally scheduled Monday - Friday; some mandatory overtime after hours or over weekends based on operational needs
- Additional Working Conditions: May be exposed to work settings that vary in convenience/comfort
- Safety Sensitive: This position is not subject to the city’s drug screening
