Position Summary:

The Custodial Technician would be responsible for the day-to-day cleaning of the building and facilities at the Carnegie Institution for Science. Ensuring our facilities are clean, well maintained, and safe. This position may also be relied on to provide 24/7 emergency response to critical issues, including snow removal or other building emergencies. A successful candidate should have 3-5 years of janitorial experience, be energetic, and be willing to learn more.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs a variety of maintenance, and general upkeep tasks throughout the building to include, but not limited to;
    • Daily Cleaning and restocking of restrooms
    • Mopping of floors and stairways
    • Vacuuming carpets, area rugs, and walk-off mats
    • Trash removal
    • Floor maintenance; buffing and waxing
  • Promptly responds to service requests from building occupants; performs required work or advises supervisor of additional resources needed.
  • Work with other facility staff to ensure the facility is prepared for visitors and events, including furniture set up and breakdown.
  • Provide 24/7 emergency response to critical issues, including snow removal or other building emergencies

Minimum (Basic) Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of janitorial experience
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for prolonged periods, and perform work in elevated and/or confined spaces
  • A successful candidate must be self-motivated and can work independently or on a team.
