The Roger Bacon Academy is an education management organization that manages multiple award-winning public charter schools in southeastern North Carolina. We are seeking a Maintenance Worker at Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville, located in Whiteville, NC.

The following mission outlines the expectations of all employees at the school level as well as employees of The Roger Bacon Academy in providing support to the schools.

General Maintenance Position– Job Responsibilities

Purpose:

A General Maintenance employee uses a variety of tools and equipment to maintain grounds and perform general maintenance. This employee determines the care and treatment necessary to maintain grounds in good condition.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs general maintenance of buildings.
• Cuts lawns.
• Trims and edges.
• Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth.
• Removes damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
• Sprays lawn, plants, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides, using hand or automatic sprayer.
• Conditions and prepares soil.
• Plants seeds, bulbs, grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs according to sketch or design when available.
• Water lawns, shrubs, and flowers.
• Maintains paths or road surfaces.
• Performs grounds maintenance duties, using tractor equipped with attachments, such as mowers, spreaders, lawn roller, etc.
• Operates heavy power equipment.
• Drives dump trucks and transports tractor and ground maintenance equipment.
• Makes minor repairs to equipment.

Qualifications

The General Maintenance employee will have the following experience and attributes:

• Working knowledge of grounds keeping and elementary horticultural practices.
• Working knowledge of planting, cultivating, pruning, spraying, and trimming requirements of flowers, shrubs and trees.
• Skill to operate heavy equipment.
• Ability to use, sharpen and make minor repairs to tools and equipment.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Physical ability to lift/carry 20-50 lbs. and dexterity to perform the duties & responsibilities
