Manager, Measurement, Evaluation, & Dissemination
Job description
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, is seeking an experienced public health professional to develop, lead, and execute measurement and evaluation practices of AAP global health initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Director of Global Operations and Program Development, this role will analyze and disseminate data findings to advance learning practices across multiple programs and inform the development of future programs.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Senior Director, Global Operations and Program Development
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serve as technical lead on all matters related to measurement, evaluation, and dissemination for AAP global programs.
2. Work closely with relevant AAP program staff to harmonize and coordinate data collection, reporting, and organizational monitoring and evaluation efforts/activities across AAP global programs (e.g., newborn, child and adolescent health), as appropriate.
3. Develop a flexible centralized database/dashboard for program impact monitoring and work closely with other managers to help maintain project data to track progress of program implementation and impact.
4. Facilitate use of data and research to inform decisions and strategy execution.
5. Promote, facilitate, and document both formal and informal learning experiences that emerge during implementation of programs (eg, publish reports, highlight success stories, communicate programs’ impact/overall results), including sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices with other AAP colleagues and external partners; supporting process documentation and dissemination around program implementation; highlighting success stories; and stimulating. creative thinking around how to improve performance, data management, and data use.
6. Design and develop web-based tools or applications that allow stakeholders to explore data and evidence relevant to AAP global programs.
7. Identify and share creative, efficient, and effective ways to engage audiences and enhance program collaboration. Develop strategic communications in collaboration with global programs leadership to facilitate information sharing with relevant stakeholders, including social media outreach efforts.
8. Lead and/or contribute to the design and conduct of targeted evaluations and research, including design, writing, and dissemination of results.
9. Review and provide technical expertise to data collection tools for program evaluation.
10. Provide technical support on development of baselines, mid-term, and final evaluations, and developing standards for data collection, using programmatic data for decision-making and others.
11. Contribute to program reporting and work planning.
12. Serve as a reviewer and provide technical support for measurement, evaluation, and learning related sections of grant proposals.
13. Partner with colleagues to identify best practices for incorporating equity into research designs.
14. Ensure measurement, learning, and evaluation activities are inclusive of and fully reflect equity priorities.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in public health, program evaluation, health administration, health policy, health education, global studies or related discipline required, with a focus on program evaluation or measurement. Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
At least four years’ related experience in the design, implementation, and dissemination of measurement, evaluation, organizational learning and public health programs, including managing communications activities, developing and fostering collaborative working relationships with partners, and translating data into recommended action plans. Experience working with global public health programs strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
Exceptional quantitative and qualitative analytic skills, with ability to evaluate and synthesize complex challenges and translate complex concepts and new ways of working into organizational strategy and measurement and evaluation tools, Excellent organizational, interpersonal, negotiation, diplomacy, critical thinking, facilitation, and written/verbal communication skills required, as well as the ability to draft communications for various audiences. Must be able to take initiative, manage multiple projects simultaneously within tight deadlines, handle a heavy workload, work both independently and as part of team, think creatively, pay close attention to detail, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office, familiarity with social media platforms, and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with web maintenance software (eg, SharePoint), document collaboration platforms (eg, SharePoint), and virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams) preferred. Fluency in a foreign language is desirable. Some travel (domestic and international) and evening/weekend work required.
Hybrid working arrangement of 40% on-site at our Chicago suburb headquarters in Itasca, IL.
