Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (MS) sector is seeking a Manager, Regulatory Compliance 3 to provide technical accounting guidance, internal control design and monitoring, general accounting support, and financial compliance oversight. This position will report to the Director of Accounting for the Mission Systems Sector. Mission Systems has annual revenue exceeding $10 billion and supports more than 4,000 contracts and 24,000 sector employees. This position also will interface with the Northrop Grumman Corporate Technical Accounting team on issues relevant to the sector as well as partner with the MS Director of Financial Planning and Reporting and team in support of quarterly financial disclosures, notes, and management discussion and analysis.
This position will be located either in Linthicum, MD or Fairfax, VA. A hybrid work schedule will be considered at the discretion of the hiring manager.
Responsibilities:
The position will have the following responsibilities:
- Assess appropriate accounting treatment and provide technical accounting guidance for significant and non-routine transactions, including revenue recognition, other transactional authority, leases, asset sales, requests for equitable adjustment, FAS/CAS differences, etc.
- Review and provide guidance on revenue recognition under ASC 606, Revenue from Contracts with Customers
- Review and provide guidance under ASC 842, Leases
- Lead the sector’s compliance with Sarbanes Oxley controls, including the assessment of existing controls for appropriateness, the need for new controls, and the evaluation of control deficiencies.
- Develop and review accounting position papers summarizing technical accounting issues, application of accounting guidance to the company, available alternatives, and recommendations.
- Engage with external and internal auditors on various topics as needed.
Leadership responsibilities for this position will include:
- Management and leadership of geographically dispersed staff including a direct report Accounting Support manager and team.
- Ability to make decisions that require evaluation of alternatives. These decisions may be made under conditions of uncertainty or where little precedent exists.
- Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to processes, policies and practices.
- Represents the functional unit as internal & external consultant.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field with 12 years of related business, accounting, or consulting experience – OR – a Master’s degree in accounting, business or related field with 10 years of related business, accounting, or consulting experience. Additional experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
- 6 years of management experience
- Experience analyzing complex business transactions and determining appropriate accounting.
- Experience with Accounting ERP systems (SAP or Costpoint)
- Strong generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- US Citizenship is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree or certification in business or accounting, including MBA, CPA or CMA
- Proven track record of data analytics to solve complex problems.
- Aerospace & Defense industry experience
- History of process optimization
- Experience leading dispersed teams with success and building employee engagement.
- Consultation experience, proving unique problem-solving techniques.
- Previous experience as big 4 (or comparable) accountant, government contractor, contracting officer, or auditor.
- FAR, DFAR, and CAS technical expertise
- Proven track record of successful relationships with internal and external auditors
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience communicating with executives.
- Self-motivated and able to function well in a team environment.
- Strong leadership skills
This position reports to Linthicum, MD, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Fairfax, VA, VA, USA.
