About The Edward Orton Jr. Ceramic Foundation:
The Orton Materials Testing & Research Center is an independent testing laboratory, specializing in the evaluation of refractory, glass, whiteware, carbon, insulation, and advanced ceramic materials.
It is operated by The Edward Orton Jr. Ceramic Foundation, a non-profit organization providing products and services to the ceramic community since 1896.
Position Description:
The Test Engineer analyzes material properties of samples by following standardized test procedures. Testing ranges from basic dimensional measurements to multi-day software automated data collection.
The ideal candidate will maintain laboratory instruments, equipment, and facilities. The duties are expected to be completed in a safe manner while working with other engineers and technicians.
Position responsibilities:
- Perform materials property testing with computer controlled data acquisition systems
- Follow standardized test methods to collect and record numerical results
- Operate multiple computer work stations throughout the course of a day
- Maintain a range of work orders varying in size from single tests to multiple test programs
Essential skills and experience:
- Work in a safe manner while using instrumentation, high temperature furnaces and sample preparation equipment
- Strong organizational skills through documentation of test results and generated data files
- Technical skills and hands-on ability to make precise measurements
- Motivated, capable of working independently and in a team environment
- Timekeeping skills with the ability to multi-task effectively, stay productive by prioritizing the most important work first, and stagger testing as necessary
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree in a technical field (electrical, materials, mechanical, industrial, computer engineering, etc.)
Preferred skills and experience:
- Hands-on sample prep and materials test setup
- Computer based data acquisition and automation
- Basic PLC understanding
- Operation of advanced laboratory instrumentation
- Familiarity with CNC machines, diamond cut off saws, and laboratory furnaces
