MDS Coordinator Job Description:
Key responsibilities include carrying out MDS and restorative nursing program administrative duties including departmental budget and planning functions.
Assist DON and Asst DON in daily functions of the nursing facility, assumes responsibility during on call rotation.
Directs staff developmental functions.
Directs all functions of the restorative nursing program.
Assures the residents' rights are protected.
Maintains a safe environment.
Directs all residents MDS and Care planning functions.
Demonstrates effective communications, organizational and clinical skills.
Assumes responsibility for assigned duties, providing care for residents ages adolescent, adult and geriatric.
MDS Coordinator Education Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current licensure by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
MDS Coordinator Experience:
Must have a minimum of two years experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long term care facility or other related health care facility.
MDS Coordinator Required Skills:
1. Must possess current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in this state.
2. Must possess the ability to tactfully deal with personnel, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
3. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to long term care.
4. Must possess ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
5. Must possess leadership and supervisory capabilities and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and nonprofessional personnel.
6. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures that are necessary for providing quality care.
7. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
8. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday, be in good general health, demonstrate emotional stability and be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
