Stittsworth Meats, based in beautiful Bemidji, MN is seeking a Meat Processing Plant Director. Bemidji, MN is the ideal place to raise a family and enjoy a productive career with a family-owned business. You’ll be working alongside Mychal Stittsworth, CEO. Mychal is a 4th generation owner. They just built their new plant just 3 years ago and are now experiencing exciting growth. Stittsworth is making their sausage and jerky products the same way “Grandpa Jipe” made them in 1940. That means no fillers, no antibiotics, whole muscle meat. Our ingredients: meat and seasoning, that’s it. The production plant is focused on sausage, jerky and chicken breast products. Stittsworth has more Facebook followers per dollar of product sold than any other meat company in the USA. This has been achieved with organic growth over the past 5 years, mostly as a result of the popularity of their “Smokehouse Store” in Bemidji. As more and more find out about Stittsworth Meats, they continue to demand it. Once you taste a Stittsworth product, you’ll see why the following is huge and growing! They are selling in all CUB stores, most all Hy-Vees in the MN market and all the Lund’s and Byerly’s stores and many more smaller chains via their distributor partners in MN. This position presents an exciting opportunity to grow with the company and brand!

The Plant Director is responsible for overall plant operations and maintenance. This includes ensuring production of a consistent, quality product on a safe, efficient and timely basis. He or she is also responsible for maximizing profit while monitoring inventories, controlling cost, ensuring stability and growth within the company and achieving or exceeding personal and business goals. The operational responsibility currently is a small number of team members running just one shift (7:30-4:30 M-F) of production with-off shift Sanitation and Maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate plant operations within company policies and procedures
  • Manage the facility's safety initiatives, which includes cleanliness and sanitation
  • Establishment and direction of local facility policies and procedures
  • Facility production goals and key performance indicators, such as giveaway, yields, labor, and floor loss
  • Establish and maintain positive employee relations and community relations
  • Foster and develop a trained and motivated staff
  • Confer with department heads to ensure coordination of purchasing, production, and shipping
  • Select, develop and retain facility supervision, administrative professionals and non-exempt staff
  • Conduct employee performance reviews and implement appropriate development plans
  • Schedule and conduct regular plant meetings
  • Attend scheduled corporate training and meetings

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Appropriate work experience. College degree not necessary, but valuable
  • 3-5 years at a Manager, Superintendent or similar level with multiple Supervisors reporting to the position is desired
  • Experience with responsibility for budgeting and operating budget execution
  • 2-3 years in a Managerial (or equivalent role)
  • Experience with significant responsibility for working with Quality Assurance (or Control), Accounting, Scheduling and Human Resources
  • Previous successful leadership of 1 or more projects relating to purchase and installation of capital equipment
  • Previous successful leadership of 1 or more projects relating to improvement of quality, yield, productivity, safety or expense reduction
  • Demonstrated leadership of improvement in at least 3 of these performance measures:
  • Product quality
  • Product yield (or scrap reduction)
  • Labor productivity
  • SQF Oversight/Audit Plans
  • Plant safety
  • Expense reduction
  • Track record of increasing position responsibility over the span of his/her career
  • Leadership of operations at a plant or major process level
  • Public speaking / presentation skills
  • Oral and written communication accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to utilize MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Desired Requirements:

  • Currently at a Plant Manager level or above
  • Experiences shown above in the food industry
  • Experience working in a facility certified under the Global Food Safety Initiative such as SQF(Safe Quality Food) or BRC (British Retail Consortium)
  • Degree with close application to position requirements such as Engineering, Food Science, Chemistry, Accounting, Management or Quality.
  • Equivalent work experience or college degree
  • Track record of leading improvements over a wider breadth than noted above
  • Leadership of multiple capital and process improvement projects
  • Formal experience and training in team management

The work environment is a plant / office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet / slippery floors. Travel may be required.
