Maintenance of Way Mechanic

Reports to: Assistant Vice President, Maintenance of Way

Job Overview: The Maintenance-of-Way, a.k.a. “M.O.W”, Mechanic will diagnose, repair and maintain various railroad specific equipment to include, but is not limited to spikers, tie inserters, tie cranes, tampers, and ballast regulators. This individual will also work on M.O.W. assigned backhoes, loaders, prentice trucks and any other equipment assigned to the MOW Department. Repairs to assigned equipment will be completed both in the shop and in the field.

Responsibilities and Duties:

· Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on a wide variety of heavy equipment and commercial vehicles, some specific to the railroad industry.

· Perform basic maintenance to all M.O.W. equipment and maintain records of parts and repaired equipment.

· Utilize diagnostic computers to assess and repair vehicles and equipment.

· Work with operators to test repaired equipment for proper performance.

· Assist and report to anywhere across the Reading and Northern system.

· Address and handle urgent or time sensitive equipment repairs.

· Other duties assigned and required.

Qualifications

· Experience with the maintenance and repairs of fleet vehicles as well as other various and heavy equipment.

· Superior knowledge and understanding of various parts, components and systems that comprise all heavy equipment.

· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

· Superior organizational and communication skills.

· Open-mindedness to rapid change and discussion of various ways to execute projects.

· Manage multiple tasks/projects, close attention to detail and adapt to a fast pace and ever-changing workload.

· Ability to work in all kinds of weather conditions.

· Ability to sit, stand, kneel, climb and/or bend for long periods of time.

· Ability to work in various locations on various shifts from day-to-day.

· Willingness to be on-call when and where necessary.

· Exposure to chemicals, noise, dust and heights.

· Must be at least 18 years of age or older.

· Positive attitude.

· Valid Driver’s License.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
