The Opportunity

The Mechanical Designer, AGI Food will be experienced in preparing clear, complete, detailed, and accurate designs and drawing packages for custom manufacturing equipment from concept sketches through to detailed manufacturing drawings. The Mechanical Designer shall employ engineering fundamentals in systems design to create 2D conceptual designs, 3D models and manufacturing drawings to satisfy customer project requirements.

The Team

Reporting to the Mechanical Design Manager of AGI Food Platform, the Mechanical Designer will work closely with other engineers, project managers, suppliers, installers, and construction teams. The Mechanical Designer will also work with senior personnel in the design and implementation of projects within customer facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer solutions for bulk transport of powders or liquid systems
  • Design and produce 3D models of proposed equipment solutions and associated piping, support structures, electrical cable trays and conduits as required
  • Produce detailed 2D CAD general arrangement and manufacturing drawings for plant layouts and equipment designs
  • Produce 2D CAD Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
  • Work with suppliers and incorporate supplier drawings into 3D models and 2D drawings
  • Create detailed Bill of Materials
  • Takes part in Engineering calculations as required
  • Responsible for consideration of safety within design, installation methodologies, and lifting plans
  • Participate in site surveys and field measurements to quantify design requirements
  • Applies Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/A) methodologies and participates in the manufacturing and assembly reviews
  • Works closely with other Engineers, Project Mangers, suppliers, installers, and construction teams
  • Assists Project Managers and estimators where required
  • Identifies and communicates deviations from scope of work
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required to work with employees from different divisions, different countries, and different time zones
  • Occasional travel will be required
  • Works as a member of a design or project team, collaborating with Sales, Engineering and Project Management in an effective manner
  • Informs management of problems or issues which affect AGI’s ability to meet customer requirements
  • Able to work flexible hours or weekends if required to effectively meet projects timelines
  • Well organized, self-motivated, capable of working independently as well as collaboratively as a team
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned
  • Working onsite at the company office in Naperville, IL in collaboration with other centralized cross-functional AGI teams

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, or Diploma in Engineering / Design Technology or equivalent.
  • 4 years Mechanical Engineering experience ideally in food, beverage, or dairy industries
  • Production floor experience and/or exposure to the food and beverage business an asset
  • Familiarity with stainless steel and sanitary design a plus
  • Working knowledge of machine shop and sheet metal best practices a plus
  • Solidworks/Inventor 3D modelling
  • Autodesk AutoCAD 2D
  • Autodesk Revit 3D modelling
  • Autodesk BIM 360 experience is an asset
  • Strong written, verbal, mathematical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal command of English language
  • Fluency in French and/or Portuguese is an asset
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
