Job description
We are looking for a Department Manager for our client, a full-service engineering and design firm in Eastern Long Island, NY.
In this role candidates will manage client relations, direct projects and develop and manage the Mechanical team on overall HVAC design work for both public and private clients. Ideal candidates should have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
In order to qualify for this role candidates must possess 20+ years of overall MEP experience, with a strong focus on HVAC projects preferably in a consulting firm. Candidates should also have at least 10 years experience devoted to project management and development/oversight of staff.
Professional Engineer license required for consideration.
Job Responsibilities
- Reviews and approves scopes, budgets and schedules for assignments; assess overall project and financial performance.
- Direct and manage the Mechanical Engineering department, which includes overseeing staff workload and ensuring the timely completion of all Mechanical/HVAC projects in coordination of other MEP teams and disciplines within the firm.
- Technical leadership, production and scheduling, quality control and cost proposals.
- Project supervision and coordination with other engineering and architecture departments within the firm.
- Preparation of construction drawings and specifications for public and private bidding.
- Participate in possible business development initiatives and efforts.Client relationship building; communicate with clients in support and coordination of all project activities.
- Nurture client relationships, which include attending meetings, answering questions and/or providing resolutions to problems/issues that may arise.
- Lead/Attend project meetings pertaining to construction administration; review contractor submittals and provide feedback and clarification when needed.
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 20+ years of overall MEP experience, with strong focus on HVAC projects, in a consulting firm; must have at least 10 years devoted to project management and development/oversight of staff.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead Mechanical/HVAC staff at various levels.
- Must have prior experience working with local municipalities/government agencies.
- Ability to manage and prioritize Mechanical projects of various complexity levels; demonstrated ability to effectively develop, grow, and enhance client relationships.
