SUMMARY
Generates General Arrangement/Layout CAD drawings at the initial stage of the engineering effort of an SMS project. These drawings, which are built on the SMS Sales Proposal Drawings, are to represent both SMS/RSC’s offering and the customer’s expectations.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
include the following, and ALL other duties as assigned.
MR1. Generate General Arrangement/Layout Drawings
- Generate the arrangement drawings to meet the following criteria:
- SMS/RSC project proposal
- SMS/RSC budget estimates
- Customer specifications
- SMS standards and procedures
- Local, state and federal safety and design codes
- Within the estimated arrangement engineering hours
- Coordinate engineering efforts with Project Manager and/or Scheduling to achieve required installation schedule
- Schedule internal peer reviews prior to sending drawings for customer approval
Provide Advance Orders
- Generate purchase order advances in a timely manner to ensure the material arrival will match the schedule requirements.
- Provide the purchasing department sufficient information to solicit bids on major items.
Submit drawings to the customer for review and approval
- Ensure that the drawing package that is submitted is accurate and complete.
- Make any and all changes to the drawings during the duration of the project, including accurate and up to date as built drawings.
Travel to Customer’s Facility
- When required, travel to the customer’s facility to perform field checks and participate in design review meetings.
- Develop a professional working relationship with the customer and conduct oneself in a businesslike manner, ensuring that SMS/RSC interests are safeguarded.
- When required, travel to the job site to assist in installation and start-up.
- Maintain project files and daily logs of communications with the customer, subcontractors and interdepartmental peers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree (Technical.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional classes (courses, seminars) required would include: Technical specialists relevant to current business plan.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, scientific and technical journals, reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from our fabrication personnel or customers. Ability to effectively present information to management.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of algebra and plane and solid geometry. Ability to work apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Understands graphical methods and representations of empirical formulae.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to analyze and resolve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKLLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Computer Aided Design and Solid Modeling software.
