WORK SCHEDULE
Part Time Days
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Pulls, prepares, and assists in the completion of medical record charts as required.
Able to perform all functions within the health information management department, including quantitative analysis on patient charts, compilation of statistical data, as well as the medical-legal aspects of medical records. This position also floats to patient registration to assist with scheduling patients in both the hospital and clinic, enter pertinent patient information and specific physician requests. Also provides patients with basic information regarding location, appointment information, physician referral/authorization and answers any other questions asked by patients.
Complies with department and organization-wide policies, Critical Access Hospital requirements, Safety and Infection Control, and all Federal and State of Colorado regulations related to the performance of Keefe Memorial Hospital operations and requirements of the compliance program.
SIGNIFICANT DUTIES
- Retrieves and files patient's records, and checks records for completeness and proper format.
- Performs all functions for release of information per request.
- Maintains daily records of admissions and discharges and prepares reports for other departments.
- Provides routine checks of pathological reports and completed charts before filing.
- Assembles, thins, and disassembles patient charts according to KMH, state and HIPAA policy guidelines.
- Performs the closing of daily and monthly receipts, charges and statements.
- Schedules patients and performs registration functions in both the hospital and clinic setting.
- Enters pertinent patient information to ensure that accurate documentation is always kept on patients.
- Tracks and updates all open or cancelled appointments and notifies appropriate staff.
- Receives inbound calls for departments regarding scheduling.
- Conducts basic assessment of caller to ensure they are connected to the appropriate department.
- Conducts outbound calls to patients regarding any changes in appointments and reminds them of upcoming appointments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Identifies opportunities and challenges to the departments’ services and applies this knowledge to develop new or enhance existing policies, procedures, systems, and services
- Demonstrates effective relationships with hospital staff, patients, public, outside agencies, and providers
- Communicates effectively verbally and in writing
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information
- Exercises professional judgment, courtesy, and professionalism in daily interactions with others
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with health care team members and diverse patient populations

Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques and appropriate equipment to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
