Job description
Job Title: Military Outdoors Campaign Representative
Department: Program
Location: Remote
Reports to: Campaign Manager, Sierra Club Military Outdoors (SCMO)
Supervises: N/A
Context: At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it.
Sierra Club is comprised of staff located across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees.
Scope: Sierra Club’s Outdoors for All campaign seeks to advance a just, equitable, and inclusive movement that ensures access to the outdoors for all people. As an Outdoors for All campaign, Sierra Club Military Outdoors (SCMO) seeks to be at the forefront of a national movement to give every veteran an opportunity to get outdoors and into our parks and other public lands and waters when they return home after service, whether through structured outdoor adventure programming or on a self-led adventure outdoors. Military Outdoors is about more than the healing power of nature; it is also about identifying and mitigating barriers veterans face when accessing those parks and other public lands and waters. Military Outdoors also seeks to activate and empower the voices of veterans who are already skilled and inspired to defend America’s lands, water, wildlife, and people. What we have learned over the years as a veteran-led campaign is that veterans are change agents, enthusiastic to make a difference in their communities.
