Job description

This position is located in the Operating Room/Recovery Room Unit (OR) of Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH). KVMH is part of the Kauai Region, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawaii operating 12 facilities statewide.

The OR unit provides nursing services for all surgical procedures. Provides sterile and sanitary environment for the performance of surgical operations. Provides proper control so that preoperative requisites of the hospital and Medical Staff are properly carried out. Ensures that necessary equipment, instruments and drugs are available to the surgeon.

The primary function of this position is to assume the 24-hour accountability for the management and direction of the OR Nursing Services to ensure the provision of optimal care for patients addressing the individualized age-appropriate care needs of patients. This position is responsible to assure the assessing and evaluating of the patients’ immediate and long-term needs in an appropriate and professional manner and developing and implementing care plans based on those needs. Incumbent must be able to carry out nursing procedures, as well as delegate to staff those techniques requiring a high degree of skill and current knowledge. Position may be subject to rotating shifts and may be floated to other nursing units.

Requirements:

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• One and one-half years (1 1/2) of professional nursing experience.One-half year (1/2) of professional nursing experience which includes: (1)planning and directing the work of others; (2)assigning and reviewing their work; (3)advising them on difficult problem areas; (4)timing and scheduling their work; and (5)training and developing employees.Five (5) years of combined experience in OR unit services, and/or certification in specialty preferred.
• License to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.
